Omnisend Review: Is It the Right SMS and Marketing Service for You?

Running an online business is tough enough without having to juggle multiple marketing tools. That’s why I got excited when I discovered Omnisend – it promises to handle both email and SMS marketing in one place. But does it really deliver?

I decided to find out by putting Omnisend through its paces. I tried everything from setting up automated welcome emails, right through to creating SMS campaigns for flash sales.

In this Omnisend review, let me walk you through what I found out about its features, pricing, and real-world performance. By the end of this review, you’ll know if Omnisend is the right marketing solution for you.

Is Omnisend the right email marketing and SMS service for you?

Omnisend Review: My Honest Review (& Firsthand Experience)

Omnisend is a popular omni-channel SMS and email marketing service that I recently had the chance to test thoroughly. It has all the features you’d expect from a marketing platform including pre-built automation workflows, subscriber segmentation, A/B split testing, and detailed analytics.

It also has a central dashboard where you can manage all your campaigns with ease.

The Omnisend SMS and email marketing platform

When creating a new marketing campaign, Omnisend has a large selection of templates that you can easily customize. This allows you to create campaigns that perfectly reflect your company or personal branding. I experimented with several templates and found them to be a great starting point.

You can also personalize your messages using Omnisend’s targeting and segmentation features. You can even set up transactional email workflows that are triggered by actions people take on your online store, such as buying a product or signing up to your email newsletter.  This is a great way to automate essential communications.

Creating personalized emails for potential leads and customers

Unlike some other SMS and email marketing solutions, Omnisend has a generous free plan that allows you to send 500 emails and 500 web push notifications every single month. I think this is a great way to get started with the platform and explore its features.

However, it does limit you to 250 contacts. This is something to keep in mind – as your list grows, you may need to upgrade.

Omnisend Review: Is It the Right SMS and Marketing Service for You?

I can tell you that picking the right email and SMS marketing tool can really streamline your communications, especially when you’re connecting with people on different channels.

From my experience, this kind of efficient management helps you grow your audience, get the word out about your products, and keep people coming back to your site.

So, with all that in mind, let’s take a closer look and see if Omnisend is the right SMS and email marketing tool for your WordPress blog.

1. Professionally-Designed Email Templates

I recently installed and tested Omnisend, and I was really impressed by all of its different emails templates.

Professionally-designed email and newsletter templates

These templates cover a range of different business and blogging niches, industries, holidays, and more so you’ll have no problems finding the right design for you. I know our readers will appreciate having so many options to choose from.

Even better, Omnisend can automatically apply your website’s branding to every email you create, including your brand colors, custom logo, and social media links. I know just how important branding consistency is, and this feature makes it a breeze.

No matter what design you choose, you can fine-tune it using the Omnisend editor. For example, you can add your call to action buttons, headings, links, messaging, and more. I was especially pleased to see how easy it was to add personalized product recommendations, something our readers have been asking for.

Creating an email newsletter or email blast using a drag and drop editor

All the designs are mobile responsive so they’ll look great no matter what device the subscriber is using. I tested this on various devices and was impressed with the results. It’s a great way to make sure your messages look professional no matter how they’re being viewed.

My Honest Review: When it comes to Omnisend, one thing that really stands out is their email templates. They can save you a ton of time! Plus, they’re completely customizable so your audience will have no idea you’re using a template.

This means you get the efficiency of using a template with the personalized feel of a custom design – it’s really the best of both worlds!

2. Create Custom Templates

When you’re happy with your email design, you can save it as a custom template for later use. I found this feature particularly helpful during my testing. I can imagine how much time this would save, especially for bloggers or e-commerce businesses that send regular newsletters or promotional emails.

This can also be a huge time-saver if you frequently create similar campaigns. For example, you might run a monthly giveaway or contest. In this case, you can create a Giveaway template and then quickly customize it to reflect that month’s competition.

Saving your email designs as a reusable template

Another option is creating a generic template that has the header, links, color scheme, and any other content you want to use in your emails. You can then use this as the starting point for all your future campaigns.

Do you run multiple sites? Then you can share your custom templates across any website, blog, or online marketplace that’s connected to your Omnisend account.

My Honest Review: The ability to save and reuse custom email templates is a fantastic feature. It’s a simple but effective way to streamline your email marketing workflow. I especially appreciated the ability to share templates across multiple sites, which is a huge plus for anyone managing more than one website.

3. Pre-Built Workflows

I was particularly excited to test Omnisend’s pre-built eCommerce marketing automation workflows. These are designed to optimize the customer journey and boost sales. I know our readers are always looking for ways to improve their sales funnels, and this feature delivers.

Simply create an Omnisend account and you’ll get access to their entire Automations Library. Here, you’ll find pre-built workflows that encourage new signups to make their first purchase, or recommend popular products based on the customer’s purchase history. I tested these on my demo site, and I was impressed with how easy they were to set up and customize.

Omnisend also has cart abandonment emails so you can bring customers back to your website to complete their purchases.

Omnisend's library of ready-made automation workflows

You can even send automated birthday emails, which is a nice way to make subscribers feel valued.

In addition to helping you get more sales, Omnisend has a range of transactional automations. This includes order confirmation, shipping updates, and order cancellation templates. I think we can all agree that these are essential for providing a positive customer experience.

With that being said, Omnisend is a particularly good choice for anyone who runs an online store, or sells digital products online.

My Honest Review: Omnisend’s automation workflows are a game-changer for eCommerce. The pre-built workflows are easy to use and incredibly effective. I particularly appreciate the inclusion of cart abandonment and transactional emails. In my opinion, this feature could potentially make a BIG impact on a website’s bottom line.

4. Code-Free Automation Editor

If you want more control, you can create your own automated workflows using Omnisend’s drag-and-drop Automation Editor. This is where Omnisend really shines. I found the editor intuitive and easy to use, even for complex workflows.

When creating these templates, you can include emails, SMS messages, and web push notifications, and use a wide range of triggers such as shopping activity or form engagement.

I tested various combinations of these, and the flexibility is impressive. I can see our readers, especially those with more complex marketing needs, really benefiting from this.

With that done, you can split your audience based on various filters and then send them down different messaging paths. This is a powerful feature that I know our readers will love.

You can even set up A/B testing, to see which variations of your automation workflow gets the best results. This data-driven approach lets you continually optimize your automations for maximum impact. This is something we can all agree is crucial for effective marketing.

My Honest Review: One of the things that really impressed me with Omnisend is their Automation Editor – and it’s seriously powerful. And the best part? They’ve even included A/B testing for your automation workflows!

If you’re looking to automate your marketing, then this is a feature I’d definitely recommend digging into.

5. Easy-to-Use Email Builder

Omnisend has a user-friendly, visual email editor. To get started, simply click on any element to make your changes, or add content such as image alt text and links.

Designing email blasts using a drag-and-drop email editor

You can also move elements around your design using drag and drop. I tested this extensively and found it very intuitive. Even beginners will feel comfortable using this editor.

If you want to add more content, then Omnisend has a library of ready-made blocks. This includes product listings, image galleries, and hero images that you can add to your emails with just a few clicks.

Adding a product image gallery to an email blast

Do you want to re-use the same block in multiple emails? For example, you might create a block that promotes an upcoming sale or offers a coupon code.

In Omnisend, you can save any content block as a layout.

Saving content blocks as a reusable layout

You can then access and use this block at any point inside the Omnisend editor.

My Honest Review: The visual email editor in Omnisend is a joy to use. The drag-and-drop interface, pre-built content blocks, and the ability to save custom layouts make creating beautiful emails a breeze. This is a feature that both beginners and experienced email marketers will appreciate.

6. Automatically Generate Discount Codes

If you sell digital downloads or physical products, then Omnisend can automatically generate a coupon code and add it to your messages.

Adding coupon codes to an eCommerce email blast

You can offer a fixed percentage discount, fixed amount discount, or free shipping. The flexibility here is great, allowing for various promotional strategies. I know our readers will appreciate having these options.

When you send the campaign, Omnisend will also automatically create the coupon in your Shopify, BigCommerce, or WooCommerce platform, so everything is fully synced.

My Honest Review: No more manually generating tons of unique codes! Omnisend handles it all for you automatically. If you’re in the eCommerce space, then this is a valuable feature that can really streamline your marketing efforts and save you a ton of time.

7. Mobile and Desktop Visibility Settings

Sometimes you may want to show different content depending on the subscriber’s device. For example, you might hide large, high-resolution images from mobile users, or change where the call to action appears depending on the screen size.

With Omnisend, you can easily mark a piece of content as desktop or mobile-only. This allows you to optimize your campaigns for different devices.

Hiding content on mobile devices

My Honest Review: In today’s world where everyone’s browsing on their phones, this is a big deal. It means you can show your mobile visitors a perfectly optimized version of your content and your desktop visitors something that looks great on a bigger screen.

8. Personalized and Dynamic Content

We all understand that personalized messages resonate more effectively with subscribers. They feel more relevant and less like generic mass mailings. I know our readers are always looking for ways to improve their email engagement, and this is where personalization shines.

With Omnisend, you can add the recipient’s name, location, and other data to your messages. For example, you might add the customer’s name to a subject line, to try and get more email opens and clicks. A simple touch like this can make a big difference.

My Honest Review: One of the things that stands out is how easy and effective Omnisend’s personalization tools are to use.

And trust me, adding that personal touch can make a huge difference in how people interact with your emails. If you’re serious about email marketing and want to connect with your audience, then personalization is an absolute must.

9. Targeting and Segmentation

Omnisend allows you to use segmentation across your newsletters, email automations, SMS messages, and web push notifications.

If you’re new to segmentation, Omnisend offers helpful suggestions for segmenting your contact list. I found these suggestions to be a great starting point, especially for beginners. This takes the guesswork out of segmentation and makes it accessible to everyone.

If you sell products or services, then Omnisend seamlessly integrates with all the top eCommerce platforms. This means you can segment your audience based on transactional events such as their purchase history, how often they buy from your store, and their average order value.

When creating segments, you can combine multiple rules, use a variety of filters, and even add tags to individual contacts. I experimented with different combinations and found the flexibility to be remarkable. Omnisend allows you to create highly specific segments tailored to your unique needs.

Even better, Omnisend offers AI-powered customer lifecycle segmentation. This artificial intelligence tool automatically assigns a lifecycle to your contacts and then shows this information in an easy-to-read lifecycle stage map.

AI-powered email analytics and reports

My Honest Review: Omnisend’s segmentation capabilities are impressive. The combination of pre-built suggestions, eCommerce integrations, flexible filtering, and AI-powered lifecycle segmentation makes it easy to target the right people with the right message. This is a crucial feature for any serious email marketer.

10. Campaign Booster

I was particularly intrigued by Omnisend’s unique Campaign Booster feature. This feature automatically resends your email to subscribers who didn’t open the first one. I know our readers are always looking for ways to improve their open rates, and this is a clever solution.

You can choose how long Omnisend should wait before re-sending the message, and even include different content upon resending. For example, a travel agency could resend an email about a travel deal with a more urgent subject line, like “Last Chance for Paradise!”

Another option is converting the email into an SMS message, to see whether this gets the engagement you’re looking for. This is a great way to experiment with different channels and see what works best for your audience.

My Honest Review: Omnisend’s Campaign Booster looks like a really smart way to make sure more of your audience sees your messages. I like that it gives you the flexibility to customize the message you resend, and even turn it into an SMS. That kind of adaptability is really valuable, and I can definitely see myself using a feature like this.

11. A/B Testing

Split testing can help you understand how small changes in content and design can affect engagement and conversion rates. I know our readers are always looking for ways to optimize their campaigns, and split testing is essential for this.

With Omnisend you can create two versions of a campaign with different subject lines, sender names, discounts, text, and any other email elements. I tested this with different subject lines and calls to action and found it very straightforward.

You can then monitor which variation gets the best results, such as the highest open or click-through rate. After choosing a winner Omnisend will automatically send that variation to the rest of your contact list.

My Honest Review: Omnisend’s split testing feature is really straightforward to use, and it gives you some great insights into what resonates most with your audience. I also appreciate that it automatically sends out the winning version – that’s a really nice and efficient touch!

12. Show Targeted Social Media Ads

With Omnisend’s Facebook Custom Audiences sync, you can retarget your customers on Facebook and Instagram based on their shopping behavior. For example, you might promote related items based on the customer’s purchase history.

Similarly, Omnisend’s Google Customer Match synchronizes your lists and segments directly with Google Ads. You can then retarget your subscribers across channels such as Google Search, Shopping, Gmail, and Youtube. Imagine a fitness studio retargeting people who abandoned their online membership signup with a special offer – Omnisend makes this incredibly easy.

My Honest Review: The Facebook Custom Audiences and Google Customer Match integrations in Omnisend are really valuable for anyone wanting to broaden their reach and effectively bring customers back. It’s definitely a feature worth checking out, especially if you’re running an e-commerce business.

13. SMS Marketing

Unlike some other email marketing providers, Omnisend has SMS built-in, so you don’t need to buy a separate SMS marketing plugin or tool. I know our readers appreciate all-in-one solutions, and this is a great example.

Creating an SMS marketing campaign

With Omnisend you can send SMS messages manually, or use triggers to create automated marketing campaigns and transactional emails. I tested both methods and found them easy to set up and manage.

Omnisend supports all country codes so you can send your messages to an international audience. They also use toll-free numbers as the default for US sending numbers, which helps avoid unexpected fees.

Your contacts can unsubscribe at any point by simply replying STOP or using the integrated unsubscribe links. With that in mind, your Omnisend SMS will be TCPA compliant by default. This is essential for maintaining good practices and avoiding legal issues.

The Free and Standard Omnisend plans both come with 60 SMS credits, and you can buy additional credits at any time. However if you upgrade to the Pro plan then you’ll get free SMS messages credited to your account every month. I reviewed the pricing plans and found the included SMS credits to be a generous offering.

My Honest Review: The built-in SMS functionality in Omnisend is a really valuable addition. It makes your marketing efforts simpler by bringing both email and SMS together in one place. Plus, the international support and the fact that they handle TCPA compliance are definitely major wins.

14. Web Push Notifications

Web push notifications are a powerful way to re-engage your audience. These messages appear directly in a subscriber’s web browser, even when they’re not on your website. I know our readers are always looking for ways to increase traffic and boost engagement, and web push notifications can be very effective for this.

With Omnisend, you can create all kinds of push notifications. For example, an e-commerce store can use push notifications to announce flash sales or new product arrivals.

Another clever use case is reminding subscribers to complete a form, which can help reduce form abandonment in WordPress. I tested this on a demo site and found it to be a simple but effective way to improve form completion rates. This is something I know our readers, especially those who use forms for lead generation, will appreciate.

You can also use web push notifications in combination with Omnisend’s segmentation features, to send targeted messages to your users and subscribers. This is a powerful way to personalize your messaging and improve conversion rates.

My Honest Review: Omnisend’s web push notification feature looks like a really valuable tool for bringing people back to your website and re-engaging them. The fact that you can combine these notifications with segmentation to target specific groups makes them even more powerful.

15. Detailed Reports and Analytics

To get the best results, it’s important to constantly monitor your marketing performance. You can then do more of what’s working, and identify any areas you need to improve.

Omnisend tracks key metrics like open rates, click-through rates, deliverability, and revenue for each campaign. It also offers revenue attribution, showing you which campaigns are driving the most sales. I found this feature particularly helpful in understanding the ROI of my email marketing efforts. This is something I know our readers, especially those focused on e-commerce, will find invaluable.

All this information is displayed in a single, easy-to-understand dashboard. I found the dashboard to be well-designed and intuitive. You can quickly get an overview of your performance, spot trends, and compare results across different channels.

This makes it easy to identify what’s working and where you need to make adjustments. For example, a marketing manager could use this dashboard to quickly assess the effectiveness of different email campaigns.

Viewing the analytics across multiple communication and marketing channels

Omnisend’s cookieless tracking is a major plus. It can track customers and potential leads even if they switch devices or channels. This provides a more complete picture of your customer journey. I think we can all agree this is crucial in today’s multi-device world.

Omnisend will also automatically create sorted lists of your best-performing activities so you can easily identify which strategies get the best results.

A list of top-performing content, created using Omnisend

My Honest Review: Omnisend’s reporting and analytics features are really excellent. The fact that they give you a comprehensive dashboard, track revenue attribution, offer cookieless tracking, and even provide automated lists of your best performers gives you some seriously valuable insights into how your marketing is doing.

16. Full-Customizable Forms, Popups, and Pages

Many website owners rely on simple sidebar opt-in forms, but there are more effective ways to get subscribers and generate leads. I know our readers are always looking for ways to grow their email lists, and Omnisend offers some powerful tools for this.

Omnisend offers built-in signup forms, popups, signup boxes, and landing pages that you can add to your site.

Creating an email signup form using Omnisend

You can even create a gamified spin to win optin, which can be a fun and engaging way to attract subscribers.

All of Omnisend’s forms are TCPA and GDPR compliant, and mobile responsive so you can collect leads across all devices. This is something we can all agree is essential in today’s mobile-first world.

An example of a gamified popup

If you create an optin popup, then you can control exactly when and where that popup appears. I experimented with different display triggers and found the level of control to be impressive.

Omnisend can even detect when a visitor is about to leave your site, and then display a popup at that exact moment. This gives you the perfect opportunity to turn an abandoning visitor into a subscriber, or even a paying customer.

Creating an exit intent popup using Omnisend

For more on this topic, please see our post on how we increased our email subscribers by 600%.

No matter what method you use, Omnisend will track the signup rates for each form, popup, or landing page. You can then identify the approach that gets the best results, so you can continuously fine-tune your optins and forms to get as many subscribers as possible. This data-driven approach is something I know our readers will appreciate.

My Honest Review: Omnisend’s lead capture tools feel like a real upgrade compared to just having basic sidebar forms. The range of options they give you, along with that smart exit-intent technology and the detailed analytics, makes it a really powerful way to grow your email list.

It’s definitely a feature worth checking out if you’re serious about building your subscriber base!

17. Integrates With eCommerce Platforms

Omnisend seamlessly integrates with all the popular website builders and eCommerce platforms like Wix, Shopify, and BigCommerce. Even better, Omnisend can automatically pull products from your store and add them to your emails.

Creating high-converting eCommerce emails

Omnisend also has a ready-made Product Recommender layout that shows your site’s top selling or newest products.

This is a quick and easy way to add product recommendations to your emails, without having to manually add each item’s image, pricing, and other content.

Recommending products to leads and potential customers

My Honest Review: Omnisend’s eCommerce integrations and product recommendation features are a game-changer for online stores.

Omnisend Review: Community and Professional Support

With its Automations Library and user-friendly editor, Omnisend is designed with ease of use in mind. However, sometimes you may have questions or need some extra help.

I explored Omnisend’s support resources and was impressed with what they offer. To start, Omnisend has an online help center where you’ll find in-depth videos and articles.

Omnisend's online documentation and support

There’s also a podcast where experts share their marketing tactics, best practices, and advice on how to run successful marketing campaigns. I listened to a few episodes and found them to be informative and insightful.

There’s also the Omnisend blog where they cover a wide range of topics, such as how to build your brand, how to optimize your email subscription forms, and how to switch to a new email marketing service. This is a great resource for staying up-to-date on the latest marketing trends.

An example of an email marketing blog

If you want more in-depth information, then Omnisend has a series of online training courses.

This includes courses that target Omnisend beginners, and show you how to perform many essential marketing tasks. A small business owner new to email marketing, for example, could benefit greatly from these courses.

Omnisend's online training

If you prefer one-on-one support, then all the Omnisend plans include 24/7 live chat and email assistance, including their free plan.

However, if you upgrade to Standard or Pro then you’ll get priority support, so you should get a response more quickly. This is something I know our readers will really appreciate, especially those running time-sensitive campaigns.

Omnisend Review: Pricing and Plans

One of the things I really appreciate about Omnisend is its generous free plan. Unlike some other platforms, Omnisend’s free plan gives you access to all its features. I tested the free plan extensively and was impressed with how much it offers.

The free plan does limit you to 250 contacts, and allows you to send 500 emails and 500 web push notifications per month. I think this is a great option for small businesses, personal blogs, or anyone just starting with email marketing.

The Omnisend pricing plans

If you have a larger list, you’ll need to upgrade to a paid plan. I reviewed all the pricing plans and found them to be pretty competitive:

  • Standard. For $16 per month, this plan lets you contact up to 500 people per month. You can also send 6,000 emails and unlimited web push notifications each month. I think this is a good fit for growing businesses with larger email lists or those who send frequent campaigns. It’s also a good option for online stores that need to send order and shipping updates to their customers.
  • Pro. For $59 per month, you can contact up to 2,5000 people. You can also send unlimited web push notifications and emails, so Pro is a great option for enterprises and bigger businesses that run large-scale campaigns. It’s also a good option for online marketplaces that have lots of customers, as you can send order and shipping updates without exceeding your email allowance. Finally, Pro allows you to send up to 3,933 SMS messages per month, so it’s perfect if you want to run SMS marketing campaigns.

Omnisend Review: My Honest Opinion (& Firsthand Experience)

After thoroughly testing Omnisend’s features, support, and pricing, I’m confident it’s an excellent marketing platform for businesses of all sizes. It offers a powerful combination of features, ease of use, and affordability.

Unlike some other email marketing services, Omnisend has a free plan that includes all its features. This makes it a great choice for WordPress blogs, startups, or anyone else who is looking for free business tools. The 250-contact limit is something to keep in mind, though.

If you’ve already grown your email list using giveaways, contact forms, or other methods, you might want to consider a paid plan straight away.

With the Standard plan, you can contact up to 500 people per month. You can also send 6,000 emails so it’s a good choice if you regularly send email blasts, newsletters, and run other large-scale marketing campaigns.

If you want to contact more than 500 people, then the Pro plan raises this limit to 2,5000 contacts. With that in mind, Pro is a good option for bigger businesses, or websites that have used email capture tools to build a large contact list.
