Divi Review: The Right WordPress Theme and Page Builder for You?

When I started building WordPress websites a decade ago, I struggled to create custom designs without coding knowledge. That’s when I discovered page builders, and everything changed.

Among all the page builders I’ve tested and used over the years, Divi has always stood out. While many multipurpose themes and page builders have come and gone, Divi has consistently stayed ahead of the curve with features like AI-powered design tools and advanced customization options.

In this hands-on Divi review, I’ll show you exactly what makes it so special, so you can decide whether it’s the right choice for your WordPress website.

Is Divi the right theme and page builder for you?

Divi Review: My Honest Opinion (And Firsthand Experience)

Divi is a popular multipurpose theme that comes with an integrated page builder. I’ve used Divi on a number of projects, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite page builders.

The page builder works with any WordPress theme so you can use it to create all kinds of websites. However, it’s optimized to work with the Divi theme and all Divi licenses include both the builder and the multipurpose theme, so many website owners use them together.

The drag and drop Divi theme builder

When you activate the page builder, it replaces the standard WordPress page and post editor with a visual builder.

This builder gives you access to hundreds of ready-made layouts covering multiple industries and niches including kits for restaurant websites, coffee shops, and yoga studios. I browsed through the layout library, and the designs are truly impressive.

Thanks to Divi’s 1-click demo importer, you can quickly and easily import any of these professionally-designed blog layouts, and then customize them using the drag and drop builder.

The Divi theme and builder

Alternatively, you can start from scratch and build a completely custom layout.

No matter what option you choose, you can add and remove elements, add text using the inline editor, move elements around the page, and even add custom CSS to create exactly the design you want. I found the inline editor particularly useful.

When you’re happy with the layout, you can make it live with just a few clicks or save it as a re-usable template.

If you manage multiple websites, then you can even export your designs and then import them into any WordPress blog, website, or online store that has Divi installed.

Divi Review: Is It the Right Theme and Page Builder for You?

There are countless WordPress themes to choose from, but many website owners still struggle to create exactly the design they want. I know just how frustrating this can be.

That’s where page builders come in.

These plugins allow you to customize every part of your site using drag and drop. I’ve used drag-and-drop builders for years, and they’re a game-changer for anyone who wants full control over their website’s design. With that in mind, let’s see whether Divi is the right page builder plugin and multipurpose theme for your WordPress website.

1. Professionally-Designed Layouts

To start, Divi is an incredibly robust platform for creating all kinds of websites. It offers over 2,000 website layouts and they’re releasing new designs all the time, complete with public domain images, icons, and illustrations.

Divi's ready-made website layouts

I tested these layout packs on my demo sites, and they’re incredibly easy to use. They really do save you a ton of time and effort in the design process.

There are also layout packs that have multiple designs for the blog section, about us page, contact page, homepage, and more.

You’ll find packs for specific niches and industries, along with minimalist templates that are suitable for almost any blogging niche.

Choosing a ready-made website pack using the Divi theme

Divi even lets you nest different layouts within other templates to create layered designs.

Besides that, Divi has over 200 fully-customizable elements and modules. For example, you can add ready-made sliders, call to action (CTA) buttons, forms, testimonials, social media feeds, pricing tables, and much more.

Adding modules to a custom WordPress theme

My Honest Review: If you’re looking for a way to build a great-looking website without a ton of fuss, these layout packs seem like an absolute winner.

2. Drag and Drop Page Builder

As someone who’s used Divi extensively, I can tell you the drag-and-drop editor is a real highlight. It. lets you create completely custom landing pages, sales pages, custom post layouts, and more. I’ve tested it with various themes, and while it’s designed for the Divi theme, it works surprisingly well with others. I think website owners will find this flexibility incredibly useful.

The Divi page builder is a true ‘what you see is what you get’ (WYSIWYG) editor so you can see your changes in real time. This means you can try lots of different settings to see what looks the best on your website, blog, or online store.

Editing elements is a breeze. Just click the element and make your changes in the left-hand menu.

Editing a website's design using Divi

You can change the fonts, text color, border options, add hover styling, apply filters, and more.

Divi provides 20 row types and 3 section types. This gives you tons of flexibility when it comes to arranging your content. I found this particularly helpful when designing complex landing pages – it’s so much easier than messing around with custom code.

Choosing a layout for your page design

My Honest Review: Divi’s drag-and-drop editor is powerful and user-friendly. The real-time editing and tons of customization options make it a joy to use. Whether you’re a blogger, business owner, or web designer, you’ll appreciate the flexibility and control Divi offers.

3. Advanced Customization Options

One of the things I love about Divi is its ability to transform elements directly within the page builder. No need for Photoshop or Sketch!

I was able to rotate elements, scale them, and move them around with ease. This is a huge time-saver, and I know our readers will appreciate not having to switch between different programs. I tested this feature extensively on my demo sites, and it worked flawlessly.

Divi also offers a range of filters to enhance your elements. I experimented with the Sepia, Saturation, and Contrast filters, and they’re a great way to add a unique touch. You can also add borders, box shadows, and text shadows, which all help to create visual interest.

In this way, you can customize the ready-made elements and modules so they perfectly reflect your branding and WordPress theme.

My Honest Review: Divi’s element transformation features are incredibly powerful. The ability to manipulate elements directly within the page builder, combined with the filter options, gives you complete design freedom. It’s a game-changer for anyone looking to create a truly custom website.

4. Inline Text Editing

Text is an important part of most blogs, websites, and online marketplaces.

With Divi, you can draft your content on the front end and see the results instantly. Just click and start typing – it’s that simple!

Editing your WordPress website's text on the front-end

You also have complete control over how the text looks. I tested out different font options, and there are hundreds to choose from. You can even upload your own fonts, which is a great option for businesses wanting to maintain brand consistency.

My Honest Review: Divi’s text editing capabilities are excellent. The front-end editing and extensive styling options make it easy to create beautiful, engaging content.

5. Animations and Effects

Animations in WordPress can grab the visitor’s attention and highlight a page’s most important content. They can also encourage customers to click on your call to action buttons.

The good news is that Divi lets you create all kinds of animations and effects.

To start, it comes with ready-made animations that you can add to any element, or you can build your own custom animations.

Adding animations and transition effects to your WordPress website

I was able to add ready-made animations to various elements on my test site, and the results were impressive. They really do help highlight important content and encourage clicks on call-to-action buttons.

You can also create motions effects, which interact with visitors as they move around the page.

Hover effects are another way to add interactivity. Divi’s hover option interface is user-friendly and makes it easy to create interesting effects without any coding knowledge. I tested this feature with different images and buttons, and it’s a simple way to add a touch of polish.

Finally, you can create dynamic transitions between blocks of content. This adds a level of sophistication and helps guide the visitor’s eye through the page. I played around with different transition styles, and they’re a great way to create a more immersive experience.

My Honest Review: Divi’s animation features really are top-notch. The combination of ready-made animations, custom animation options, hover effects, and dynamic transitions gives you everything you need to create a visually stunning and engaging website.

6. Create Sticky Content

Sticky or floating content ‘sticks’ to the top of the screen as the visitor scrolls, so it’s onscreen at all times. This is a great way to highlight the page’s most important content, or ensure your navigation menus are always within easy reach.

Divi allows you to stick elements to the top or bottom of the browser. I experimented with both options and found them equally effective. The stacking feature is particularly useful for creating complex layouts where multiple elements need to remain visible.

My Honest Review: Divi’s sticky content feature is simple yet effective. It’s a great way to ensure key elements remain visible, improving user experience and highlighting important information.

7. Conditional Rules and Dynamic Content

Divi allows you to hide or show elements based on conditions that you define, such as user role, date and time, location, and more. I know our readers who run online stores will find this particularly useful – imagine showing different products based on past purchases! This is a game-changer for personalized marketing.

You can also show dynamic content, such as an accurate comment count, the post title, its tags and categories, and more.

Adding dynamic content to a WordPress page or post design

In this way, you can show relevant and interesting information to the visitor.

This automation extends to other areas as well. For example, you can simply tell Divi to display the author info box, rather than adding it manually. This is a small but significant time-saver. I wish I’d had access to this feature in the past.

Adding dynamic content to a WordPress page design

My Honest Review: Divi’s conditional display and dynamic content features are incredibly powerful. In fact, this makes Divi a must-have for anyone looking to create a truly dynamic and personalized website experience.

8. Generate Images and Text Using AI

I was particularly excited to test Divi’s built-in artificial intelligence tools. Instead of searching for images online, I simply typed in a prompt and Divi created several options instantly. This is a huge time-saver, and I can imagine our readers loving this feature.

Generating images using AI with Divi

Similarly, you can use the AI tools to generate text.

I experimented with different content types, from headings and paragraphs, to post excerpts and call-to-actions.

Generating text using AI

Divi AI can even translate content into different languages, which is a game-changer for reaching a global audience. Businesses looking to expand their reach will find this invaluable.

My Honest Review: Divi’s AI tools are seriously impressive. The image and text generation capabilities are incredibly useful and could potentially save you a ton of time.

Basically, they’re a must-try for anyone looking to streamline their content creation process.

9. Support for Custom CSS

For those who like to add custom code, Divi’s built-in code editor is a welcome addition. I tested it out and was pleasantly surprised by its features. It’s a mini editor, but it packs a punch.

In fact, this mini editor has all the advanced features you’d expect from a fully-fledged code editor including syntax highlighting, error reporting, auto-complete, color picking, and multi-line select. I think developers and advanced users will appreciate having this tool at their fingertips.

My Honest Review: Divi’s code editor is a lot better than I expected. While it might not be as advanced as a full coding program, it has all the essential features you need to add custom code to your designs.

10. Create Custom Templates

Creating custom page layouts with Divi is easy, but being able to reuse those designs is even better. I saved a few of my test page layouts as templates, and it was a huge time-saver. I know our readers will appreciate not having to recreate designs from scratch.

Saving a custom layout as a reusable WordPress template

You can even import your templates into any other website that has Divi installed.

This is perfect if you run a WordPress development agency and manage lots of client websites, or you own a portfolio of sites and want them all to have the same branding.

My Honest Review: Divi’s template saving and importing feature is a game-changer. It simplifies the design process and makes it easy to maintain consistency across multiple websites. It’s a must-have for anyone managing more than one site.

11. Optimized for Performance

Your site’s page loading times has a big impact on its success. In fact, a 1 second delay in loading times can lead to a 7% loss in conversions, 11% fewer page views, and a 16% decrease in customer satisfaction. Those are some pretty scary stats!

The good news is that Divi is designed with speed in mind. It reduces bloat by automatically removing the resources you aren’t using. I tested this on my own installation and noticed a significant improvement.

Divi also defers resources, cache requests and removes render blocking assets, which is great news for your initial page load times. I wish I had access to a feature like this when I first started building websites. Think how much time I could have saved!

My Honest Review: Divi’s performance features are truly impressive. I particularly like how it automatically removes unused resources.

12. Optimized for Mobile

According to our internet usage statistics, mobile internet traffic accounts for almost 55% of total web traffic. With that in mind, it’s vital that your site looks good and works correctly on smartphones and tablets. I’ve seen so many websites neglect mobile optimization, and it’s a real shame.

The good news is that Divi layouts are mobile-responsive by default. I tested this out on a few different demo sites, and the results were excellent.

Even better, you can preview how your layouts will look on smartphones and tablets, directly inside the Divi builder.

Creating a mobile responsive layout for your WordPress blog or website

It also comes with a list of device presets so you can test your layouts on specific smartphone and tablet models.

In this way, you can be confident that you’re providing a great experience across all devices.

Testing your WordPress blog or website across smartphones, tables, and desktop computers

My Honest Review: The mobile responsiveness and preview features in Divi are a huge plus.

Being able to see exactly how my layouts will look on different devices is a real time-saver. This is a must-have feature for absolutely anyone who’s building a blog, website, or online store. Even if you’re creating a simple, one-page website – that single page needs to look good on smartphones and tablets.

13. Undo, Redo, and Revisions

Divi records all your edits as you make them. I’ve been using website builders for years, and this is a feature I really appreciate. If you change your mind, you can easily undo or redo these edits just by clicking a button.

Undoing changes in the Divi page editor

This gives you the freedom to try different settings and content to see what looks the best. I tested this extensively, and it worked flawlessly every time.

Even better, if your computer crashes or your internet goes down, Divi will automatically save your progress so you don’t lose any of your hard work.

My Honest Review: The undo/redo and autosave features are essential for any website builder. I know just how important it is to have a safety net when working on a website, and Divi provides that. These features give you peace of mind and make the design process much more enjoyable.

14. Built In Split-Testing

A/B split testing helps you understand how small changes in content and design affect user behavior and conversion rates.

Divi comes with built-in split testing so you can create different versions of a page design and then see which one helps you achieve your goals. This is particularly useful for pages that are designed to convert, such as sales pages.

I tested this feature with a few different landing pages, and it was surprisingly easy to set up and use. Businesses, both large and small, could really benefit from this.

My Honest Review: Built-in A/B testing is a valuable addition to Divi. I was impressed by how straightforward the process was. Being able to optimize pages for conversions without relying on third-party plugins is a major advantage.

15. Tons of Integrations

Divi integrates with many of the plugins and tools you may already be using, including WPForms, MemberPress, and Eventin. I’ve used several of these plugins myself, and the integration is seamless.

Integrating Divi with other apps and services

If you run an online store, then Divi also integrates with WooCommerce. You can create beautiful product layouts using the familiar Divi editor and even mix WooCommerce modules with standard Divi modules to create a completely unique layout. I tested this integration and was able to create some really impressive product layouts.

Divi also comes with 8 cart and checkout modules, so you can optimize the purchasing process and reduce cart abandonment rates. I know just how important it is to streamline the checkout experience, and these modules make it a breeze.

In addition, Divi integrates with Google Maps so you can show your location. This is useful if your business has a physical location such as a bricks-and-mortar store. You might also use Google Maps when creating a business directory.

To help you generate leads, Divi also integrates with all the best email service providers including ConvertKit, Constant Contact, and Mailchimp. This is something our readers have been asking for so I’m happy to see that Divi delivers.

How to integrate Divi with the top email service providers

My Honest Review: Divi’s extensive integrations are a major selling point. The WooCommerce integration, in particular, is incredibly powerful. Being able to customize the checkout process with dedicated modules is a game-changer for online stores.

Divi Review: Professional and Community Support

With Divi, you can design beautiful pages using a WYSIWYG editor and see the results in real time, without having to code. I found the visual editor incredibly intuitive and easy to use. However, sometimes you may need some extra help to set up the theme and builder.

If you prefer to research yourself, then Divi has detailed documentation, including written guides and video tutorials.  I browsed through the documentation and was impressed by how thorough it was. They also have a community forum where you can interact with other Divi users.

If you prefer one-on-one help, then you can reach out to a customer support agent or resolve your problems through Divi’s live chat feature. This is a huge plus for beginners who might need a little extra guidance.

Elegant Themes' customer support

Divi Review: Pricing and Plans

If you want to try Divi before buying a license, they offer a free 30-day trial. I highly recommend taking advantage of this trial to see if Divi is the right fit for you. After that, there are a few different plans you can choose from.

You can also save your layouts, headers, footers, templates and other content to the cloud. With that in mind, this is the perfect plan for WordPress developers, designers, and anyone else who creates websites for clients.

If you prefer to make a one-time payment, then you can also buy a lifetime license. Lifetime access to Divi is priced at $249, while lifetime access to Divi Pro is priced at $365. I think the lifetime access option offers great value, especially for freelancers and agencies.

Divi Review: Is It the Right Theme and Page Builder for You?
