When people come asking us, how do you make thousands of dollars from blogging? we tell them slowly. If you haven’t learned it yet, then here it is: There is no get rich quick formula that you can implement. Blogging takes a lot of hard work and consistency. Your income grows overtime, slowly and steadily. Secret to blog monetization lies in the words “passive income”. You receive income on a regular basis with little effort required to maintain it. How do you do that? Through affiliate marketing. If you are a blogger who use and reference to iTunes in your post, then you can easily start earning money. In this article, we will show you how to effortlessly earn money from WordPress blogs with iTunes affiliate Pro (free plugin).
How does iTunes affiliate program work?
iTunes have an affiliate program that pays you 5% commission on all purchases made within 3 days of clicking on one of your affiliate links. Since most users go on a download frenzy after they purchase their new iPhone or iPad, your commissions can quickly rack up.
Will this make me super rich?
NO, it will not. Considering an average iTunes item costs anywhere from $0.99 to $9.99, you should expect to make 5% of that. This might not sound a lot, but as your site grows, this number will start adding up. Think of the analogy: “you build a house with one brick at a time”.
iTunes affiliates in WordPress?
First thing you obviously need to do is go signup for the iTunes affiliate program. Once you create an account at this network, you have to apply for the iTunes affiliate program. It does NOT get added by default. Once approved, they will give you long ugly URLs. To fix that, you need to install this plugin called iTunes Affiliate Pro (even though it says pro, it is a free plugin).
After you install and activate this plugin, you need to go to Settings » iTunes affiliate pro. There you need to enter your Link Share affiliate ID.

To find your Linkshare ID, go to the Links tab in your account. Click Get Links. Find any affiliate program to get your links from.

Your Linkshare ID is the part in bold. It is case-sensitive, so make sure you paste the exact code in the plugin.
Then check the box that says activate filter.
Basically what this plugin does is every time, you link to an iTunes item, it replaces it with your linkshare link automatically.
We know that bloggers like to share links of their favorite apps, e-books, musics etc. Since you were sharing it anyways, now you can make a little bit of money from it. In the beginning it would be as little as $5 per month. But you can easily see this starting to add up as you have more and more links. Few hundred posts down, you might even be making over $1k per month just from iTunes.
In summary, signup for the iTunes affiliate program, and start another passive income stream from your WordPress blog.

Huh!?
I never thought about blogging and incorperating iTunes! You blood genius!
Ha ha, great share! Thanks a bunch
Craig
This has been updated. To get your id it no longer says “click?id” in the URL. As well you get this emailed to you once you are approved.
In addition, you must specifically list out items too link to. You can’t just link to iTunes. You must give the exact artist, or album or movie name which makes it much harder to earn income.
Is this compatible with Adsense?
Yes. Adsense has no restrictions for affiliate programs.
The link that you have shared to LinkShare doesn’t say anything about it being a ‘iTunes affiliate’ program.
Am I missing something?
You have to sign up for LinkShare first, then apply for the iTunes affiliate program.
Oh! That’s how it is.
Thanks..
That would have been good to spell out in this article
Updated the article to fix that
Is it just me is does LinkShare have the absolutely worst interface of the affiliate networks? What can’t I see all my sites in one report? Having each site split out is a major pain when you have 35+ sites.
Ok, I did NOT know about this plugin. Thanks!
BTW, I was denied an iTunes affiliate account at first but after emailing them back, I was able to get on the list.
Downside to that is that I usually check apps on my mac and then go to the iphone to make the purchase.
Yup, that is one of the downsides. Unfortunately, no way around that.
