Promoting your Facebook Page in WordPress with a Lightbox Popup

Boy does it seem like a week of popups. First we wrote about Pippity – a WordPress popup plugin, and now we are writing about a facebook page promoter popup? These popups must be converting really well. It was brought to our attention after our last post about Pippity, that there is a free plugin that lets you create a lightbox popup to promote your Facebook page. Facebook Page Promoter Plugin helps you to direct your blog’s traffic to your Facebook fan page by means of a lightbox. If you are looking to expand your facebook community then this plugin is perfect for you. In this tutorial we are going to show you how to promote your facebook page in WordPress with a lightbox popup.

The first thing you need to do is install and activate the plugin, Facebook Page Promoter Plugin

Once you have activated it, you should notice an option on your dashboard that says “Facebook Settings”. Click on this and it will bring you to a page where you can setup your plugin. First you need to input your Facebook page ID. You can get this by logging into your Facebook account, going to your fan page and selecting “edit page”. If you look up at the url, will notice that the last portion looks like this: id=somenumber. Somenumber is your page ID.

Alternatively, you can visit a URL like this:

http://graph.facebook.com/wpbeginner (Remember to replace ‘wpbeginner’ with your fan page name), and you will see the ID listed there.

Setup Screen

Once you input your page ID choose whether you would like the lightbox to pop up on pages, posts or both. Then select a delay if you want and save your changes. Test it by loading up one of your posts. You should see something like this:

Facebook Lightbox

  7. AhsanNaveed says:

Is there any option by which we can disable this popup for those who have already liked the fanpage?

    • ALSpaulding says:

@AhsanNaveedwpbeginner I want to know the same thing. will it continue to popup once they have liked the page?

      • wpbeginner says:

@ALSpaulding@AhsanNaveed It is doing it via cookie, so it does not know whether your user has liked the page. It only knows that if the user’s computer was shown it once. For example: If I come to your site, then I will get that popup. Lets say I like your page. Then using another computer, I go on your site again, it will still show me the popup….Or if I go using a different browser in the same computer, it will still show me the popup… or if I clear my browser cookie, it will still show me the popup.

        • twofast says:

So If I have it set to ’1′ .

Using the same computer and same browser, and they like the button the first time.

Will the popup happen each day after? Even if the cookies are not deleted?

Would be awesome if you could set how many times it would pop up and wouldn’t popup again once they liked it.

        • Editorial Staff says:

Yes, it will happen each day. Because you have set the cookie to expire every 24 hours. Unfortunately, this plugin doesn’t have the option that you suggest.
