Wenn man in den letzten anderthalb Jahren die Domain wp.org eingab, wurde man zu WPBeginner weitergeleitet. Das war für viele eine unerwartete und unangenehme Überraschung, denn eigentlich wollten Sie WordPress.org besuchen, die Heimat des beliebten Content-Management-Systems. Heute freue ich mich, Ihnen mitteilen zu können, dass wir die Domain an die WordPress Foundation verschenkt haben.
Für die meisten von Ihnen bedeutet das nichts, und das Leben geht weiter wie bisher. Für diejenigen, die mehr in die WordPress-Community involviert sind, ist das eine große Sache, denn jetzt könnt ihr wp.org in eure Tweets, Slack-Nachrichten, Facebook-Statusmeldungen usw. schreiben, ohne mich oder WPBeginner zu verfluchen.
Ich weiß, dass diese Umleitung frustrierend war, weil viele von euch mich getwittert oder uns wütende E-Mails geschickt haben. Ich möchte mich bei euch allen und auch bei denen, die den richtigen Weg eingeschlagen haben, für mein Verhalten entschuldigen.
Jetzt fragen Sie sich wahrscheinlich, was sich geändert hat?
Die kurze Antwort lautet: SEHR VIEL.
Meine Frau und ich sind mit unserem ersten Baby schwanger. Das hat mir eine neue Perspektive auf das Leben als Ganzes gegeben.
Von der Ausarbeitung eines neuen Testaments bis hin zur Erweiterung meiner Lebensversicherung passiert eine Menge. Zum ersten Mal in meinem Leben denke ich über unvorhergesehene Umstände nach. Einige von Ihnen, die älter und viel weiser sind, werden das „erwachsen werden“ nennen.
Ich habe alle Dinge aufgeschrieben, die mir sehr wichtig sind, und ganz oben steht nach meiner Familie WordPress. Es ist meine erweiterte Familie, und das sieht man, wenn man mich auf einem der WordCamps trifft. Ich benutze WordPress seit 10 Jahren und WPBeginner gibt es seit fast 7 Jahren.
Mit anderen Worten: WordPress ist seit 40% meines Lebens ein Teil von mir.
Wenn ich daran denke, was WordPress alles für mich getan hat, ist eine Spende von wp.org an die WordPress Foundation das Mindeste, was ich tun kann.
WordPress ist viel größer als eine Person oder eine Organisation. Das ist der Grund, warum es die WordPress Foundation gibt. Sollte mir jetzt etwas zustoßen, weiß ich zumindest, dass diese Domain nicht an den Meistbietenden versteigert wird (sondern sicher zu Hause bei der Foundation ist).
Ich bedaure nur, dass ich das nicht schon früher getan habe. Aber ich bin froh, dass ich es jetzt getan habe.
Das Leben lehrt uns jeden Tag neue Lektionen, und ich bin sicher, dass ich mit dem neuen Baby noch viel lernen werde.
Ich möchte allen danken, die mich unterstützt haben, und ich freue mich darauf, der WordPress-Community weiterhin zu dienen.

Congratulations on your baby, as well as the generous gift. I can’t imagine what a domain name like that would be worth~ so the thought of „donating it“ in todays corporate world of greed is quite humbling.
I do know too that regardless of donating the name or not~ your WP Beginner site has helped me on a weekly basis for the past two years as I stumble my way around building my brand.

Kudos on the donation, Nothing wrong to me with a redirect on a domain you owned for a similar relevant site but I can see where some might view it as not wordpress and get angry. I was wondering why WP.org had Red in WebOfTrust browser tool with no reviews stating why it had a bad rating but this explains things. I followed you on fb and bookmarked your site so your donation gained me whatever that is worth. Regarding WebOfTrust, Any users that use it and read this should go rate the wp.org domain accurately so that visitors with the browser extension are not fooled into thinking wp.org is not trustworthy… I will! P.S. Also going to rate this domain and it already has a good score!
