No último ano e meio, se você digitou o domínio wp.org, foi redirecionado para o WPBeginner. Essa foi uma surpresa inesperada e desagradável para muitos, pois você realmente queria visitar o WordPress.org, a sede do popular sistema de gerenciamento de conteúdo. Hoje, tenho o prazer de anunciar que doamos o domínio para a WordPress Foundation.
Para a maioria de vocês, isso não significa nada e a vida continua como sempre. Para aqueles que estão mais envolvidos na comunidade do WordPress, isso é muito importante, porque agora você pode digitar wp.org em seus tweets, mensagens do Slack, status do Facebook etc. sem xingar a mim ou ao WPBeginner.
Sei que esse redirecionamento foi frustrante, pois muitos de vocês tuitaram para mim ou nos enviaram e-mails irritados. Para todos vocês e até mesmo para aqueles que optaram pelo caminho mais fácil, quero pedir desculpas por minhas ações.
Agora você deve estar se perguntando o que mudou?
A resposta curta é MUITO.
Minha esposa e eu estamos grávidos do nosso primeiro filho. Isso me deu uma nova perspectiva sobre a vida como um todo.
Desde a elaboração de um novo testamento até o trabalho para ampliar a cobertura do meu seguro de vida, muita coisa está acontecendo. Pela primeira vez na minha vida, estou pensando em circunstâncias imprevistas. Alguns de vocês que são mais velhos e muito mais sábios chamarão isso de “crescimento”.
Anotei todas as coisas que são muito importantes para mim e, entre as principais, depois de minha família, está o WordPress. Ele é minha família estendida, e você poderá ver isso se me encontrar em qualquer um dos WordCamps. Tenho usado o WordPress nos últimos 10 anos e o WPBeginner existe há quase 7 anos.
Em outras palavras, o WordPress faz parte de mim há 40% da minha vida.
Ao pensar em tudo o que o WordPress fez por mim, doar o wp.org para a WordPress Foundation é o mínimo que eu poderia fazer.
O WordPress é muito maior do que uma pessoa ou uma organização. Essa é a razão pela qual a WordPress Foundation existe. Agora, se algo acontecer comigo, pelo menos sei que esse domínio não será leiloado para quem der o lance mais alto (em vez disso, ele estará seguro em casa) com a Fundação.
Meu único arrependimento é não ter feito isso antes. Mas estou feliz por ter feito isso agora.
A vida nos ensina novas lições todos os dias, e tenho certeza de que aprenderei muito com o novo bebê.
Quero agradecer a todos que me apoiaram e estou ansioso para continuar servindo à comunidade do WordPress.

Congratulations on your baby, as well as the generous gift. I can’t imagine what a domain name like that would be worth~ so the thought of “donating it” in todays corporate world of greed is quite humbling.
I do know too that regardless of donating the name or not~ your WP Beginner site has helped me on a weekly basis for the past two years as I stumble my way around building my brand.

Kudos on the donation, Nothing wrong to me with a redirect on a domain you owned for a similar relevant site but I can see where some might view it as not wordpress and get angry. I was wondering why WP.org had Red in WebOfTrust browser tool with no reviews stating why it had a bad rating but this explains things. I followed you on fb and bookmarked your site so your donation gained me whatever that is worth. Regarding WebOfTrust, Any users that use it and read this should go rate the wp.org domain accurately so that visitors with the browser extension are not fooled into thinking wp.org is not trustworthy… I will! P.S. Also going to rate this domain and it already has a good score!
