Non molto tempo fa, chi siamo parlava di WordPress 3.0, ma a giudicare dal percorso di sviluppo, siamo sulla buona strada per WordPress 3.1. Da quanto si evince, sembra che la nuova versione uscirà a metà dicembre 2010. Saranno aggiunte alcune caratteristiche molto interessanti, quindi andiamo subito al sodo.
Caratteristiche di WordPress 3.1
Il blocco delle caratteristiche è previsto per il 15 ottobre, quindi le caratteristiche elencate di seguito non sono assolutamente definitive. Nel frattempo possono essere aggiunte nuove caratteristiche e alcune potrebbero non essere aggiunte. Ma ecco la portata generale delle novità in arrivo:
Collegamenti interni
Si tratta di una delle caratteristiche più desiderate di questa versione 3.1. Sappiamo tutti quanto importino i collegamenti interni per la SEO di WordPress. Questa nuova caratteristica permetterà agli utenti di cercare tra gli articoli del blog esistenti e di aggiungere dei colleghi nel contenuto. Nel pannello di scrittura degli articoli sarà incluso un pulsante, proprio come quello dei collegamenti esterni, in cui verrà visualizzato un popup simile al pulsante di inclusione dei media. Permetterà di cercare articoli o di sfogliare un elenco di contenuti esistenti per titolo, data, autore ecc. e di selezionarli per l’inclusione. Si potrà inserire il testo che si desidera collegare, oppure si potrà utilizzare il titolo dell’articolo come predefinito. (Sono molto entusiasta di questa nuova caratteristica).
Barra dell’amministrazione
Se avete utilizzato un blog WordPress.com, conoscete già questa funzione. In WordPress 3.1 verrà aggiunta una barra di amministrazione per collegare il backend al frontend del blog. Questa caratteristica sarà molto utile per gli utenti di installazioni multisito, ma sarà utile anche per gli utenti di siti singoli, perché consente di accedere con un clic alla dashboard, al modulo per i nuovi articoli e così via. Questa funzione sarà fortemente ispirata alla barra di amministrazione rivista di WordPress.com e al plugin originale Viper007Bond per la barra di amministrazione. Secondo Matt Mullenweg, questo è il “primo passo verso un editore frontend”.
Nota: c’è stata una certa resistenza al fatto che questo sia nel core piuttosto che in un plugin. È stato discusso un compromesso per renderlo facoltativo. Quindi, molto probabilmente, si tratterà di qualcosa che dovrà essere attivato attraverso il file functions.php del tema (questa è la nostra ipotesi). Vi terremo aggiornati man mano che la versione si avvicina.
Schermi dell’amministrazione ajaxificati
Fa parte del progetto WordPress Google Summer of Code 2010 realizzato da “scribu”. L’idea di questa caratteristica è di abilitare l’ordinamento sulla maggior parte delle colonne e di ajaxificare l’ordinamento, la ricerca e la paginazione. Introduce anche un nuovo stile di paginazione per le pagine edit.php nel backend di wp. Ad esempio, nella pagina di modifica degli articoli, quando si hanno tonnellate di articoli, la paginazione richiede alcuni clic per arrivare a pagina 10. Questa nuova versione lo renderà più semplice. Jane Wells l’ha definita una paginazione in stile Hulu. L’idea è che si potrà inserire il numero di pagina nel campo e quella pagina verrà caricata, invece di fare clic sulle frecce di paginazione.
Bacheca di rete separata
Attualmente la Bacheca dei siti multipli è disordinata e confusa. Questa nuova caratteristica separerà la dashboard del network o della rete dalla dashboard del sito. È stata presa in considerazione anche l’opzione di creare una dashboard personale per sostituire la dashboard globale per gli utenti che hanno un account ma non un sito in multi-sito. Questa caratteristica può essere rimandata a WordPress 3.2 a causa della sua complessità e del tempo che richiede.
Tagga i template di Quick Press
Nella vostra Bacheca di WordPress, c’è una piccola e fantastica sezione per gli articoli rapidi, noti anche come Quick Press. Questo nuovo template tagga consente di utilizzarlo sul frontend del sito per la creazione di articoli rapidi. Sarebbe una caratteristica interessante per gli editori connessi.
Miglioramento dell’interfaccia per la ricerca e la consultazione dei temi installati
L’obiettivo è quello di sostituire l’attuale interfaccia utente (UI) con quella di WordPress.com, che è molto più facile da usare. Sarebbe molto utile per i siti che hanno molti temi installati, in particolare per gli utenti di siti multipli che generalmente tendono ad avere tonnellate di temi installati.
Template degli articoli / Stili degli articoli
Con WordPress che diventa sempre più un CMS, questa è una caratteristica molto necessaria che sarà versione WordPress 3.1. Consentirà ai progettisti/sviluppatori di creare template e stili personalizzati per gli articoli. L’obiettivo di questa caratteristica è quello di consentire di indicare un articolo come un certo stile/tipo/tipo di contenuto. Alcuni esempi di stili sono digressione, galleria, collega, citazione. In questo modo, i temi potranno creare uno stile per questi articoli di conseguenza. L’idea è simile a quella degli articoli in evidenza, ma la porta a un livello superiore, perché ora è possibile avere numerosi articoli con uno stile unico. Di seguito è riportato un esempio di interfaccia utente, ma anche in questo caso non si tratta dell’immagine definitiva. È solo il modo in cui può apparire in WordPress 3.1.
Eseguire query avanzate per la tassonomia
Non è un’opzione per i principianti, ma pensiamo che gli sviluppatori ne saranno felici. Questa caratteristica renderà più facile effettuare una query avanzata. Per esempio, al momento non c’è modo di chiedere gli articoli che fanno parte della categoria “auto” ma che non hanno la tagga “BMW”. Questo porta gli utenti a creare complessi sistemi di categorie per simulare tassonomie multiple. Questo renderà l’ordinamento degli articoli e di altri post type molto semplice per gli sviluppatori che vogliono spingere WordPress oltre i suoi limiti.
Manutenzione
Come sempre, verranno corretti bug e migliorata l’interfaccia. Inoltre, saranno apportati alcuni piccoli correttivi all’API dei post type / tipo di contenuto. Una nota speciale: questa sarà l’ultima versione a supportare PHP 4. WordPress 3.2 supporterà solo PHP 5.2 e superiori. Se il vostro host non utilizza PHP 5.2, è il momento giusto per iniziare a buggerarlo. Se non sapete quale versione di PHP utilizza il vostro host, potete scaricare il plugin Health Check. Questo plugin vi permetterà di sapere su quale versione di PHP sta lavorando il vostro host.
Programma di WordPress 3.1
La versione di WordPress 3.1 è prevista per la metà di dicembre, preferibilmente non oltre il 15 dicembre, in modo che le vacanze non interferiscano con la versione. Le date sono le seguenti:
15 ottobre – congelamento delle caratteristiche; non si aggiungono nuove caratteristiche dopo questo punto, in modo da poter iniziare i test su un prodotto stabile (compresi i test di usabilità delle nuove caratteristiche).
1 novembre – congelamento del codice primario; gli ultimi aggiustamenti basati sui test effettuati dopo il congelamento delle caratteristiche dovrebbero essere ormai corretti e l’attenzione si sposta sulla correzione dei bug per arrivare a una beta stabile.
15 novembre – Inizio del periodo beta; da questo momento in poi, niente più miglioramenti, solo correzioni di bug.
1 dicembre – Blocco delle stringhe; i traduttori si rallegrano.
15 dicembre – Versione di WordPress 3.1

Internal linking, finally! Im loving this update, been working in it all morning… freaked out when the post excerpts and custom fields were missing (theyre still there, in screen options, phew!)
Im interested in the post templates/post styles. Was able to activate it in my theme, but not exactly sure how to get it working. Would love a simple tutorial on simple ways to use this, if you have it in the works.

I’m using 3.1 now and I like it. I turn off the admin bar when I view my website, but keep it on in the backend. It gets in the way of clicking the website name in the upper left corner when you hover over the admin bar, but I can get used to it.
My favorite feature, by far, is the internal linking. Blogger was doing that for years and I missed it when I moved to WordPress. It’s in now, so that’s good!

No doubt that internal linking will be something that I appreciate on a more regular basis than many of the other features but it sounds like it will be a big update. I’m also anxious to get my hands on the network piece of this one as I manage many WP sites. Just curious if you know when the final 3.1 will be released or what the adjusted target is? I’m on a RC right now that’s a little loopy and am anxious for development to be wrapped up.

I am just hoping it’s going to be relatively simple to remove a certain feature from the theme if it’s not going to be used. I believe WP shouldn’t try integrating features which won’t be generic into the core and instead should provide such enhancements/functionality as plugins. I have always loved WP for it’s simplicity and I sincerely hope the core remains like that (i.e. to the point).
But what I am going to be looking forward to is going to be the advanced taxonomy queries you have mentioned. Right now you can’t do much complex queries using the API pertaining to taxonomies.

Hi, thanks for sharing. One thing I don’t fully understand about internal linking. Let’s say I update the permalink of post A that I had linked from within post B. Does the link inside B get automatically updated?

If you choose it via the internal linking feature, then yes it should get updated… Although we highly recommend that you don’t change permalinks and if you do… there is a 301 redirect, so you don’t lose any backlinks. There are plugins that lets you do that.

I’m happy to see that internal linking is being built-in and like @Harsh Agrawal said above, that particular function already exists with the Insights plugin. It would be nice if eventually they could build in the other features that the Insights plugin offers (Google search, Wikipedia search, Flickr search, etc.)

Oh, and also: the picture you have of an admin bar plugin is not really much like the one that we’re talking about doing, as your picture looks like it was based on a pre-2.7 installation of WordPress. We haven’t had those navigational sections since 2008. You should look at the one on wordpress.com, that’s more what we’re thinking, to help improve the multisite experience.

Please be careful in posting things like this. These features are not guaranteed to be included in 3.1, they are simply the features we are working on in the 3.1 development cycle. Inclusion will not be determined until we see where they all are at the feature freeze date. If any of them are not complete enough to be included in core yet, they will not be in 3.1. There may also be other reasons for features not being included based on other considerations that come up between now and then. Making a list like this in the first week of the dev cycle is to give us a plan for the work, not a plan for the release itself.

Thanks so much for this update.
I’m very excited with the new features. I wish for WP to evolve to a plattform where i as a non-programmer can easily style all my posts, pages etc. and even create new page and post templates or even the whole wp theme without having to know code. (using a REAL WYSIWYG editor) (and i’m well aware that there is software like artisteer – but that doesn’t do what i need and i need a REAL wysiwyg – artisteer is not)

I believe this idea is inspired from Insight WordPress plugin…

Insights plugin, yes, but the internal linking feature also has some similarities to the excellent “Microkid’s Related Posts” plugin. (I have wished in the past that I could mash these two together.) It would be great to have the ability to insert an internal link with the link text being the title of the link target.
I really hope that on multisite installs, there will be checkbox options in this feature for “search this blog” vs. “search network.”
Use case: a network has one blog that is a shared directory, property listing, book or product catalog. “Search network” would allow authors from various blogs in the network to link to a common post for the item under discussion.
In this case, you’d want to make sure you could include custom post types in addition just “Post” type content. That should probably be another search option (checkboxes to include/exclude various post-types), even on single-site installs.

A great set of improvements, something you’d expect from a major release really.
The contextual linking to other posts is great, provided that it dynamically updates if you were to move the post (perhaps give it a new slug, or alter permalink structure?). Anyone know if this is the case?
“Post Templates / Post Styles” also a very powerful addition. Thanks for keeping us informed as always WPB!
