Syed Balkhi e Amanda Roberts di WPBeginner hanno partecipato al WordCamp Miami lo scorso weekend del 20 febbraio. Dopo aver assistito alla presentazione di Jane Well e aver parlato con lei dopo il suo intervento, abbiamo deciso di condividere con la Community di WPBeginner le caratteristiche di WordPress 3.0 in arrivo.
La versione di WordPress 3.0 è prevista per il 1° maggio, lo stesso giorno del WordCamp di San Francisco. Il congelamento delle caratteristiche è stato spostato al 1° marzo 2010, data in cui non saranno accettate nuove richieste di caratteristiche (solo correggimenti di bug).
Caratteristiche di WordPress 3.0
Come abbiamo detto, il blocco delle caratteristiche è previsto per il 1° marzo, quindi questo elenco conterrà solo le caratteristiche principali che siamo abbastanza certi entreranno nella versione 3.0 di WordPress.
Fusione di WordPress MU + WordPress.org
Chi non sa cosa sia WordPress MU non deve preoccuparsi. WordPress MU è una piattaforma simile a WordPress, ma permette agli utenti di gestire più siti sotto un’unica installazione. WordPress.com è basato sul codice di WordPress MU. Matt Mullenweg ha annunciato la notizia della fusione durante il WordCamp di San Francisco 2009. Dopo un anno di duro lavoro, lo staff di Automattic e gli sviluppatori del nucleo di WordPress sono finalmente riusciti a farlo.
Cosa significa questo per voi?
È ora possibile avere più siti in un’unica installazione. Ad esempio, se vogliamo, possiamo avere showcase.wpbeginner.com con un’unica installazione di WordPress. Quali sono i possibili risultati? Se ora avete un sito e non volete aggiungere altri siti in seguito, va benissimo. Non cambierà nulla per voi. Se state utilizzando WordPress MU, dopo l’aggiornamento i vostri siti rimarranno gli stessi. Non cambierà nulla per voi.
Il punto fondamentale è che non cambierà nulla se non volete che cambi. Questa caratteristica è solo un add-on che aiuterà gli utenti che vogliono avere più siti. Aiuterà anche gli utenti di WordPress MU, perché consentirà loro di utilizzare tutti i plugin di WordPress.org senza hackerarli.
Mappatura del dominio – Se siete utenti di WordPress MU o se avete usato WordPress.com in passato, sapete che esiste un modo per avere domini di primo livello per i vostri siti in rete. WordPress.com consente agli utenti di aggiornare i propri sottodomini a un dominio personalizzato. Questa caratteristica NON sarà inclusa nel core. È comunque possibile utilizzare il plugin per farla funzionare.
Ricerca tra reti – Se decidete di avere numerosi siti sotto un’unica installazione, la ricerca tra reti non è una caratteristica integrata. Potrebbe diventare una caratteristica fondamentale in futuro, ma in WordPress 3.0 non sarà possibile. È comunque possibile utilizzare il plugin per farla funzionare.

Tipi di articoli personalizzati
Quando WordPress 2.9 era in versione, c’era un gran clamore per questa caratteristica. A causa di alcune difficoltà tecniche, questa caratteristica non è stata introdotta. L’attesa è finita, perché sarà inclusa in WordPress 3.0. La combinazione di post type e tassonomie renderà WordPress un’opzione CMS molto più robusta. Questa caratteristica vi permetterà di avere diversi tipi di articoli, come ad esempio gli annunci di portfolio, i prodotti e i post normali.
Nota: questa caratteristica non sostituisce l’uso delle categorie. È necessario continuare a utilizzare le categorie. Questa caratteristica consente un modo diverso di ordinare/visualizzare e abilita altre opzioni CMS in WordPress.

Migliori menu di navigazione
In questa versione,Woo Navigation personalizzato sarà incluso nel core per consentire una migliore gestione dei menu. Questo sistema di menu ha la facilità di trascinamento e rilascio dello schermo di gestione dei widget, può combinare pagine, categorie e collegamenti. Consente inoltre di ordinare le pagine, di creare sottomenu e di nascondere pagine o categorie specifiche dal menu.

Nuovo tema predefinito 2010
Bye Bye tema Kubrick. Benvenuto 2010. WordPress 3.0 sarà dotato di un nuovo tema predefinito, noto come 2010. Da quest’anno in poi, l’obiettivo è di avere un nuovo tema per ogni anno. Vi state chiedendo come sarà il nuovo tema 2010?

Il tema dispone di header personalizzato, sfondo personalizzato, design pulito, aree widget multiple, menu a cascata e molto altro ancora.
Supporto per lo sfondo personalizzato
Il supporto per lo sfondo personalizzato può essere richiamato aggiungendo questa riga nel file functions.php:
add_custom_background();
Una volta aggiunto il codice, si aprirà uno schermo nel pannello di amministrazione che consentirà di caricare un’immagine di sfondo personalizzata che sostituirà lo sfondo grigio predefinito. Funzionerà solo in questo tema e in altri temi che supportano questa caratteristica.
Template specifici per gli autori
Sappiamo che in WordPress 2.9 è stata aggiunta un’opzione che permetteva ai designer di creare template di categoria utilizzando lo slug fore esempio category-slug.php. In WordPress 3.0, è possibile creare template specifici per ogni autore. La funzione get_author_template(); è stata ampliata in wp-includes/theme.php.
In WordPress 3.0, è possibile dare un nome ai file come author-syed.php.
Possibilità di scegliere il nome utente durante l’installazione di WordPress
Attualmente, WordPress assegna automaticamente al primo utente il nome utente “admin”. Se avete letto i nostri 13 consigli vitali per proteggere l’area amministrativa di WordPress o avete seguito una delle presentazioni sulla sicurezza di Syed, saprete quanto importi questa caratteristica. Ora gli hacker non possono indovinare il vostro nome utente perché non sarà più “admin”. Prima chi non cambiava il nome utente predefinito aiutava gli hacker dando loro metà della risposta.
Guida di benvenuto in ogni installazione
In passato, a WordPress mancava sempre qualcosa di molto importante. Una guida di benvenuto che aiutasse gli utenti a familiarizzare con WordPress. Molti utenti si sono lamentati di questo problema, quindi in WordPress 3.0 ci sarà una guida di benvenuto per guidare i nuovi utenti.
Plugin canonici
Vi è capitato di utilizzare un plugin che vi piaceva molto e il cui autore ha interrotto il supporto. Non si correggono bug, non si aggiornano e il plugin inizialmente si rompe nelle versioni più recenti. Questo è un problema comune, quindi con WordPress 3.0 c’è una missione che Jane Wells sta portando avanti: unire gli autori di plugin e creare plugin canonici. I plugin canonici sono sviluppati da una Community invece che da un unico sviluppatore, quindi se una persona va giù, il plugin non muore.
Speriamo che questa idea funzioni, perché sarà un’ottima cosa per la Community.

Great news. I especially can’t wait to play around with WordPress MU’s multi-blog integration. That’s one of the coolest features for a multi-blogger like me. More than one blogging platform is no longer necessary with the ease of use this integration promises.

I’m particularly interested in the merging of .org with MU as I would like a separate blog relating to different topics from my main blog, and don’t want the hassle of having to go through the process of a separate MU install in order to get separate blogs. This would be a complete nightmare just now, as I’d have to download MU, test it on my local server, then change from my current .org to MU once I was satisfied that everything was running properly. I realise I could do a separate install on a sub-domain, but that would just clog up my root with duplicate files.
I am also very interested in the Canonical plugins. There are great plugins out there that the developers are no longer updating, and that’s a loss to people already using them, or who would like to use them.

All of these other features are only nice to haves compared…

Custom Woo Navigation is my favourite new feature. Very handy if you want to have pages and categories in the same menu and custom sort them.
I already use pages (parent is portfolio and then children are the projects) for my portfolio, so not sure I’ll be needing the custom post feature for my site.

Hi i have been keeping watch on the development of WordPress 3.0 and MU. I did have one question, especially now, so close to the release, and it is something that gets missed with excitement.
1. What will happen to current WordPress MU users? as is is there a smooth upgrade path?
The reason i ask is because i have a client who wants multi-site/user functionality. But which is the better option Default wordpress and upgrade to wordpress 3.0 adding the mult-site functionality or go with MU if it will have a stable upgrade path?

It is encouraging to hear about the extended CMS functions, but I really hope that WP becomes even better for portfolio-style websites for designers, artists, etc. I would love to stick with WP rather than going to other CMS systems, even if they are better suited to Portfolio style sites.

The different post types is a big deal. It’s one of the strongest reasons to use a CMS like Expression Engine. Now that WordPress is getting this, the sky just opens up as to what you will be able to do with customization. This will be fantastic, and is possibly the best new feature to WP since it started.

Same WordPress MU will not be functional across multiple networks. But what if all the domains I have with wordpress were on the same physical server. Would WordPress MU then be able to control them?

Really glad they’re losing the Kubrick theme! No offense to the theme’s creator, but that theme completely ruins everyone who tries to learn WordPress. They inevitably hack away at the default theme, which is programmed in a completely wrong, WP 2.6 kind of way.
I was pretty close to blogging about how they should lose it, so I’m glad I read this before wasting my time :).

Thanks for the heads-up on WP 3.0. I would have preferred that MU be an option because 99% of my clients don’t need that, but we’ll see how it works with the standard WordPress Dashboard. I hope that it will be smooth and easy.

It *is* an option. You’d have to go in and do the setup for them – if they currently aren’t using it, an upgrade won’t turn it on.
