No hace mucho hablábamos de WordPress 3.0, pero por lo que se ve en el seguimiento del desarrollo, vamos camino de WordPress 3.1. Por su extensión, parece que la nueva versión saldrá a mediados de diciembre de 2010. Se añadirán algunas características muy interesantes, así que pongámonos manos a la obra.
Características de WordPress 3.1
La congelación de características es el 15 de octubre, por lo que de ninguna manera las características que enumeramos a continuación están finalizadas. Nuevas características pueden ser añadidas mientras tanto, y algunas características pueden no ser añadidas. Pero aquí está la extensión general de lo que está por venir:
Enlaces internos
Esta es una de las características más deseadas para esta versión 3.1. Todos sabemos lo importante que es enlazar internamente para el SEO de WordPress. Esta nueva característica permitirá a los usuarios buscar a través de sus entradas de blog existentes y añadir enlaces en el contenido. Se incluirá un botón en el panel de escritura de entradas, igual que el de enlazar enlaces externos, donde verás un mensaje / ventana emergente como el botón de inclusión de medios. Le permitirá buscar entradas, o navegar por un listado de contenidos existentes por título, fecha, autor, etc, y seleccionarlos para su inclusión. Le permitirá introducir el texto que desea enlazar, o utilizar el título de la entrada por defecto, tal vez. (Muy ilusionado con esta nueva característica)
Barra de administrador
Si has utilizado un blog de WordPress.com, entonces ya estás familiarizado con esto. En WordPress 3.1, se añadirá una barra de administración para conectar el back-end con el front-end de tu blog. Esta característica será muy útil para los usuarios de instalaciones multisitio, pero también lo será para los usuarios de un solo sitio, ya que permite acceder con un solo clic al panel de control, al formulario de nuevas entradas, etc. Se inspirará en gran medida en la barra de administrador revisada de WordPress.com y en el original plugin de barra de administrador Viper007Bond. Según Matt Mullenweg, se trata del “primer paso hacia un editor front-end”.
Nota: hubo cierta resistencia a que esto estuviera en el núcleo en lugar de ser un plugin. Se discutió la posibilidad de hacerlo opcional. Así que lo más probable es que sea algo que necesite ser activado a través del archivo functions.php de su tema (esa sería nuestra suposición). Le mantendremos actualizado a medida que se acerque la versión.
Pantallas de administrador Ajaxificadas
Esto fue parte del proyecto WordPress Google Summer of Code 2010 realizado por “scribu”. La idea de esta característica es activar la ordenación en la mayoría de las columnas y ajaxificar la ordenación, búsqueda y paginación. También introduce un nuevo estilo de paginación para las páginas edit.php en la administración / escritorio de WordPress. Por ejemplo, en su página de edición de entradas cuando se tiene un montón de entradas, la paginación requiere unos pocos clics para llegar a la página 10. Esta nueva versión hará que sea más fácil. Jane Wells se refirió a ella como una paginación estilo Hulu. La idea es que usted será capaz de introducir el número de página en el campo, y esa página se cargará en lugar de hacer clic a través de las flechas de paginación.
Escritorio de red separado
Actualmente, el Escritorio multi-sitio es desordenado y confuso. Esta nueva característica va a separar el salpicadero de red del salpicadero de sitio. Una opción para crear un Escritorio personal para reemplazar el Escritorio global para aquellos usuarios que tienen una cuenta pero no un sitio en multi-sitio fue considerada también. Esta característica puede posponerse a WordPress 3.2 debido a su naturaleza compleja y lenta.
Plantilla de prensa rápida etiqueta
En su escritorio de WordPress, hay una pequeña sección impresionante para Quick Posting también conocido como Quick Press. Esta nueva etiqueta de plantilla le permitirá ser utilizada en el front-end de su sitio para hacer entradas rápidas. Sería una buena característica para los editores conectados.
Mejora de la interfaz de usuario para buscar y navegar por los temas instalados
El objetivo es cambiar la actual interfaz de usuario (UI) con la interfaz de WordPress.com, ya que es mucho más fácil de usar. Sería muy útil para los sitios que tienen una gran cantidad de temas instalados especialmente los usuarios Multi-Site que por lo general tiende a tener toneladas de temas instalados.
Plantillas de entradas / Estilos de entradas
Con WordPress convirtiéndose cada vez más en un CMS, esta es una característica muy necesaria que será lanzada en WordPress 3.1. Permitiría a los diseñadores / desarrolladores crear plantillas de entradas y estilos personalizados. El objetivo de esta característica es permitir denotar una entrada como un cierto estilo / tipo / clase. Algunos ejemplos de estilos son minientrada, galería, enlazar, cita / presupuesto. Esto permitirá a los temas personalizar el estilo de estas entradas. Esta idea es similar a la de las entradas fijas, pero llevándola a un nivel superior porque ahora puedes tener numerosas entradas con estilos únicos. A continuación se muestra la interfaz de usuario de ejemplo, pero de nuevo esto no es la imagen final. Así es como puede verse en WordPress 3.1.
Consultas avanzadas sobre taxonomía
Esto no es para principiantes, pero pensamos que los desarrolladores estarán contentos acerca de esto. Esta característica facilitará la realización de consultas avanzadas. Por ejemplo, ahora mismo no hay forma de buscar entradas que estén en la categoría “coches” pero que carezcan de la etiqueta “BMW”. Esto obliga a los usuarios a crear complejos sistemas de categorías para simular múltiples taxonomías. Esto hará que la clasificación de entradas y otros tipos de contenido sea muy fácil para los desarrolladores que buscan llevar WordPress más allá de sus límites.
Mantenimiento
Como siempre, habrá correcciones de fallos y mejoras en la interfaz. Además, habrá algunas pequeñas correcciones en la API de tipos de contenido personalizado. Una nota especial: Esta será la última versión compatible con PHP 4. WordPress 3.2 solo será compatible con PHP 5.2 y superiores. Si su alojamiento no utiliza PHP 5.2, ahora sería un buen momento para empezar a darles la lata acerca de ello. Si no sabe qué versión de PHP utiliza su alojamiento, puede descargar el plugin Health Check. Este plugin le permitirá saber qué versión de PHP está utilizando su alojamiento.
Calendario de WordPress 3.1
Está previsto que WordPress 3.1 se publique a mediados de diciembre, preferiblemente no más tarde del 15 de diciembre, para que las vacaciones no interfieran con la versión. Las fechas son las siguientes
15 de octubre – Congelación de características; no se añadirán nuevas características a partir de este momento, para que puedan comenzar las pruebas en un producto más o menos estable (incluidas las pruebas de usabilidad de las nuevas características).
1 de noviembre: congelación principal del código; los últimos ajustes basados en las pruebas realizadas tras la congelación de características ya deberían estar terminados y la atención pasa a centrarse en la corrección de fallos para llegar a una versión beta estable.
15 de noviembre – Comienza el periodo beta; a partir de este momento, no habrá más mejoras, solo corrección de fallos.
1 de diciembre – Congelación de cadenas; los traductores se alegran.

Internal linking, finally! Im loving this update, been working in it all morning… freaked out when the post excerpts and custom fields were missing (theyre still there, in screen options, phew!)
Im interested in the post templates/post styles. Was able to activate it in my theme, but not exactly sure how to get it working. Would love a simple tutorial on simple ways to use this, if you have it in the works.

I’m using 3.1 now and I like it. I turn off the admin bar when I view my website, but keep it on in the backend. It gets in the way of clicking the website name in the upper left corner when you hover over the admin bar, but I can get used to it.
My favorite feature, by far, is the internal linking. Blogger was doing that for years and I missed it when I moved to WordPress. It’s in now, so that’s good!

No doubt that internal linking will be something that I appreciate on a more regular basis than many of the other features but it sounds like it will be a big update. I’m also anxious to get my hands on the network piece of this one as I manage many WP sites. Just curious if you know when the final 3.1 will be released or what the adjusted target is? I’m on a RC right now that’s a little loopy and am anxious for development to be wrapped up.

I am just hoping it’s going to be relatively simple to remove a certain feature from the theme if it’s not going to be used. I believe WP shouldn’t try integrating features which won’t be generic into the core and instead should provide such enhancements/functionality as plugins. I have always loved WP for it’s simplicity and I sincerely hope the core remains like that (i.e. to the point).
But what I am going to be looking forward to is going to be the advanced taxonomy queries you have mentioned. Right now you can’t do much complex queries using the API pertaining to taxonomies.

Hi, thanks for sharing. One thing I don’t fully understand about internal linking. Let’s say I update the permalink of post A that I had linked from within post B. Does the link inside B get automatically updated?

If you choose it via the internal linking feature, then yes it should get updated… Although we highly recommend that you don’t change permalinks and if you do… there is a 301 redirect, so you don’t lose any backlinks. There are plugins that lets you do that.

I’m happy to see that internal linking is being built-in and like @Harsh Agrawal said above, that particular function already exists with the Insights plugin. It would be nice if eventually they could build in the other features that the Insights plugin offers (Google search, Wikipedia search, Flickr search, etc.)

Oh, and also: the picture you have of an admin bar plugin is not really much like the one that we’re talking about doing, as your picture looks like it was based on a pre-2.7 installation of WordPress. We haven’t had those navigational sections since 2008. You should look at the one on wordpress.com, that’s more what we’re thinking, to help improve the multisite experience.

Please be careful in posting things like this. These features are not guaranteed to be included in 3.1, they are simply the features we are working on in the 3.1 development cycle. Inclusion will not be determined until we see where they all are at the feature freeze date. If any of them are not complete enough to be included in core yet, they will not be in 3.1. There may also be other reasons for features not being included based on other considerations that come up between now and then. Making a list like this in the first week of the dev cycle is to give us a plan for the work, not a plan for the release itself.

Thanks so much for this update.
I’m very excited with the new features. I wish for WP to evolve to a plattform where i as a non-programmer can easily style all my posts, pages etc. and even create new page and post templates or even the whole wp theme without having to know code. (using a REAL WYSIWYG editor) (and i’m well aware that there is software like artisteer – but that doesn’t do what i need and i need a REAL wysiwyg – artisteer is not)

I believe this idea is inspired from Insight WordPress plugin…
Though they are adding more new feature..I hope it doesn’t mean they need more memory and resources (Hosting)

Insights plugin, yes, but the internal linking feature also has some similarities to the excellent “Microkid’s Related Posts” plugin. (I have wished in the past that I could mash these two together.) It would be great to have the ability to insert an internal link with the link text being the title of the link target.
I really hope that on multisite installs, there will be checkbox options in this feature for “search this blog” vs. “search network.”
Use case: a network has one blog that is a shared directory, property listing, book or product catalog. “Search network” would allow authors from various blogs in the network to link to a common post for the item under discussion.
In this case, you’d want to make sure you could include custom post types in addition just “Post” type content. That should probably be another search option (checkboxes to include/exclude various post-types), even on single-site installs.

A great set of improvements, something you’d expect from a major release really.
The contextual linking to other posts is great, provided that it dynamically updates if you were to move the post (perhaps give it a new slug, or alter permalink structure?). Anyone know if this is the case?
“Post Templates / Post Styles” also a very powerful addition. Thanks for keeping us informed as always WPB!
