Não faz muito tempo, estávamos falando sobre o WordPress 3.0, mas, pelo que parece, estamos a caminho do WordPress 3.1. Pelo escopo, parece que a nova versão será lançada em meados de dezembro de 2010. Há alguns recursos muito interessantes que serão adicionados, portanto, vamos direto ao assunto.
Recursos do WordPress 3.1
O congelamento de recursos ocorrerá em 15 de outubro, portanto, de forma alguma os recursos listados abaixo estarão finalizados. Novos recursos podem ser adicionados nesse meio tempo, e alguns recursos podem não ser adicionados. Mas aqui está o escopo geral do que está por vir:
Links internos
Esse é um dos recursos mais desejados para a versão 3.1. Todos nós sabemos como os links internos são importantes para o SEO do WordPress. Esse novo recurso permitirá que os usuários pesquisem as publicações existentes no blog e adicionem links ao conteúdo. Um botão será incluído no painel de redação de posts, assim como o de links externos, onde você verá um pop-up como o botão de inclusão de mídia. Ele permitirá que você pesquise postagens ou navegue em uma lista de conteúdo existente por título, data, autor etc. e selecione-o para inclusão. Ele permitirá que você insira o texto que deseja vincular ou usará o título da postagem por padrão, talvez. (Muito animado com esse novo recurso)
Barra de administração
Se você já usou um blog do WordPress.com, então já está familiarizado com isso. No WordPress 3.1, será adicionada uma barra de administração para conectar o back-end ao front-end do seu blog. Esse recurso será mais útil para pessoas com instalações em vários sites, mas também será útil para usuários de um único site, pois oferece acesso com um clique ao painel de controle, formulário de nova postagem etc. Isso será fortemente inspirado na barra de administração revisada do WordPress.com e no plug-in original da barra de administração Viper007Bond. De acordo com Matt Mullenweg, esse é o “primeiro passo em direção a um editor de front-end”.
Observação: houve alguma resistência ao fato de isso estar no núcleo em vez de ser um plug-in. Foi discutido o compromisso de torná-lo opcional. Portanto, provavelmente será algo que precisará ser ativado por meio do arquivo functions.php do seu tema (essa seria a nossa suposição). Nós o manteremos atualizado à medida que o lançamento se aproximar.
Telas de administração com Ajax
Isso fez parte do projeto WordPress Google Summer of Code 2010, realizado por “scribu”. A ideia desse recurso é permitir a classificação na maioria das colunas e ajaxificar a classificação, a pesquisa e a paginação. Ele também introduz um novo estilo de paginação para páginas edit.php no backend do wp. Por exemplo, em sua página de edição de postagens, quando há muitas postagens, a paginação requer alguns cliques para chegar à página 10. Essa nova versão tornará isso mais fácil. Jane Wells se referiu a ela como uma paginação no estilo Hulu. A ideia é que você poderá inserir o número da página no campo e essa página será carregada, em vez de clicar nas setas de paginação.
Painel de rede separado
Atualmente, o painel de vários sites é bagunçado e confuso. Esse novo recurso vai separar o painel de rede do painel do site. Também foi considerada a opção de criar um painel pessoal para substituir o painel global para os usuários que têm uma conta, mas não têm um site em vários sites. Esse recurso pode ser adiado para o WordPress 3.2 devido à sua natureza complexa e demorada.
Tag do modelo de imprensa rápida
No seu painel do WordPress, há uma pequena seção incrível para Quick Posting, também conhecida como Quick Press. Essa nova tag de modelo permitirá que ela seja usada no front-end do seu site para fazer postagens rápidas. Seria um recurso interessante para os editores conectados.
Interface de usuário aprimorada para pesquisa e navegação de temas instalados
O objetivo é trocar a interface de usuário (UI) atual pela interface do WordPress.com, pois ela é muito mais fácil de usar. Isso seria muito útil para sites que têm muitos temas instalados, especialmente para usuários de vários sites que geralmente tendem a ter muitos temas instalados.
Modelos de postagem / estilos de postagem
Com o WordPress se tornando mais um CMS, esse é um recurso muito necessário que será lançado no WordPress 3.1. Ele permitirá que os designers/desenvolvedores criem modelos e estilos de postagem personalizados. O objetivo desse recurso é permitir que uma postagem seja identificada como um determinado estilo/tipo/espécie. Alguns exemplos de estilos são: à parte, galeria, link, citação. Isso permitirá que os temas estilizem essas postagens de acordo. Essa ideia é semelhante à das postagens fixas, mas levando-a a um nível mais elevado, pois agora você pode ter várias postagens com estilo exclusivo. Abaixo está o exemplo da interface do usuário, mas, novamente, essa não é a imagem finalizada. Essa é apenas a aparência que pode ter no WordPress 3.1.
Consultas avançadas de taxonomia
Isso não é para iniciantes, mas achamos que os desenvolvedores ficarão felizes com isso. Esse recurso criará uma maneira mais fácil de executar consultas avançadas. Por exemplo, no momento não há como solicitar postagens que estejam na categoria “carros”, mas que não tenham a tag “BMW”. Isso faz com que os usuários criem sistemas complexos de categorias para simular várias taxonomias. Isso tornará a classificação de publicações e outros tipos de publicações muito fácil para os desenvolvedores que desejam levar o WordPress além de seus limites.
Manutenção
Como sempre, haverá correções de bugs e melhorias na interface. Além disso, haverá algumas pequenas correções na API Custom Post Types. Uma observação especial: esta será a última versão compatível com o PHP 4. O WordPress 3.2 será compatível apenas com o PHP 5.2 e superior. Se o seu host não estiver usando o PHP 5.2, agora seria um bom momento para começar a incomodá-lo a respeito. Se não souber qual versão do PHP seu host está usando, você pode baixar o plug-in chamado Health Check. Esse plug-in permitirá que você saiba em qual versão do PHP seu host está sendo executado.
Programação do WordPress 3.1
O WordPress 3.1 está planejado para ser lançado em meados de dezembro, de preferência até o dia 15 de dezembro, para que as festas de fim de ano não interfiram no lançamento. As datas são as seguintes:
15 de outubro – Congelamento de recursos; nenhum novo recurso será adicionado após esse ponto, para que os testes possam começar em um produto estável (incluindo testes de usabilidade de novos recursos).
1º de novembro – Congelamento do código primário; quaisquer últimos ajustes baseados em testes após o congelamento de recursos já devem ter sido concluídos e o foco passa a ser a correção de bugs para chegar a uma versão beta estável.
15 de novembro – Início do período beta; a partir desse momento, não haverá mais aprimoramentos, apenas correções de bugs.
1º de dezembro – Congelamento de strings; os tradutores se alegram.
15 de dezembro – Lançamento do WordPress 3.1

Internal linking, finally! Im loving this update, been working in it all morning… freaked out when the post excerpts and custom fields were missing (theyre still there, in screen options, phew!)
Im interested in the post templates/post styles. Was able to activate it in my theme, but not exactly sure how to get it working. Would love a simple tutorial on simple ways to use this, if you have it in the works.

I’m using 3.1 now and I like it. I turn off the admin bar when I view my website, but keep it on in the backend. It gets in the way of clicking the website name in the upper left corner when you hover over the admin bar, but I can get used to it.
My favorite feature, by far, is the internal linking. Blogger was doing that for years and I missed it when I moved to WordPress. It’s in now, so that’s good!

Just installed 3.1 on our site. I’m really excited about the custom post/page templates as I have 3 or 4 distinct types of posts and would love to standardize the templates for the content.

No doubt that internal linking will be something that I appreciate on a more regular basis than many of the other features but it sounds like it will be a big update. I’m also anxious to get my hands on the network piece of this one as I manage many WP sites. Just curious if you know when the final 3.1 will be released or what the adjusted target is? I’m on a RC right now that’s a little loopy and am anxious for development to be wrapped up.

I am just hoping it’s going to be relatively simple to remove a certain feature from the theme if it’s not going to be used. I believe WP shouldn’t try integrating features which won’t be generic into the core and instead should provide such enhancements/functionality as plugins. I have always loved WP for it’s simplicity and I sincerely hope the core remains like that (i.e. to the point).
But what I am going to be looking forward to is going to be the advanced taxonomy queries you have mentioned. Right now you can’t do much complex queries using the API pertaining to taxonomies.

Hi, thanks for sharing. One thing I don’t fully understand about internal linking. Let’s say I update the permalink of post A that I had linked from within post B. Does the link inside B get automatically updated?

If you choose it via the internal linking feature, then yes it should get updated… Although we highly recommend that you don’t change permalinks and if you do… there is a 301 redirect, so you don’t lose any backlinks. There are plugins that lets you do that.

I’m happy to see that internal linking is being built-in and like @Harsh Agrawal said above, that particular function already exists with the Insights plugin. It would be nice if eventually they could build in the other features that the Insights plugin offers (Google search, Wikipedia search, Flickr search, etc.)

Oh, and also: the picture you have of an admin bar plugin is not really much like the one that we’re talking about doing, as your picture looks like it was based on a pre-2.7 installation of WordPress. We haven’t had those navigational sections since 2008. You should look at the one on wordpress.com, that’s more what we’re thinking, to help improve the multisite experience.

Please be careful in posting things like this. These features are not guaranteed to be included in 3.1, they are simply the features we are working on in the 3.1 development cycle. Inclusion will not be determined until we see where they all are at the feature freeze date. If any of them are not complete enough to be included in core yet, they will not be in 3.1. There may also be other reasons for features not being included based on other considerations that come up between now and then. Making a list like this in the first week of the dev cycle is to give us a plan for the work, not a plan for the release itself.

Ofcourse we are aware that some features might not make in which is why we added above all the features the disclaimer that the feature freeze is far away, and it means that some of these features might not make in depending on progress.

Thanks so much for this update.
I’m very excited with the new features. I wish for WP to evolve to a plattform where i as a non-programmer can easily style all my posts, pages etc. and even create new page and post templates or even the whole wp theme without having to know code. (using a REAL WYSIWYG editor) (and i’m well aware that there is software like artisteer – but that doesn’t do what i need and i need a REAL wysiwyg – artisteer is not)

Features look really amazing and specially first one (Internal linking) is going to be handy..
I believe this idea is inspired from Insight WordPress plugin…
Though they are adding more new feature..I hope it doesn’t mean they need more memory and resources (Hosting)

Insights plugin, yes, but the internal linking feature also has some similarities to the excellent “Microkid’s Related Posts” plugin. (I have wished in the past that I could mash these two together.) It would be great to have the ability to insert an internal link with the link text being the title of the link target.
I really hope that on multisite installs, there will be checkbox options in this feature for “search this blog” vs. “search network.”
Use case: a network has one blog that is a shared directory, property listing, book or product catalog. “Search network” would allow authors from various blogs in the network to link to a common post for the item under discussion.
In this case, you’d want to make sure you could include custom post types in addition just “Post” type content. That should probably be another search option (checkboxes to include/exclude various post-types), even on single-site installs.

A great set of improvements, something you’d expect from a major release really.
The contextual linking to other posts is great, provided that it dynamically updates if you were to move the post (perhaps give it a new slug, or alter permalink structure?). Anyone know if this is the case?
“Post Templates / Post Styles” also a very powerful addition. Thanks for keeping us informed as always WPB!
