WordPress è una grande piattaforma e questo solo perché ha alle spalle una grande Community. Ci sono migliaia di plugin nel repository che sono disponibili gratuitamente. Grazie ai fantastici sviluppatori di plugin che ci hanno fatto questo regalo. Ora tocca a noi ricambiare. È frustrante trovarsi sulla pagina di un plugin che è stato scaricato migliaia di volte e solo una persona conferma che funziona o che è rotto. Capiamo che non tutti sono codificatori, ma tutti possono essere tester. Tutti possiamo spendere 5 secondi del nostro prezioso tempo per visitare il WordPress Plugin Repository e verificare la compatibilità dei plugin.
Questo aiuterà tutti gli altri utenti di WordPress che stavano pensando di utilizzare quel plugin, perché ora si sentiranno molto più a loro agio nell’utilizzarlo. La garanzia è ottima per la soddisfazione. Ogni installazione di WordPress ospitata all’esterno ha Akismet installato e più della metà dei blog utilizza Akismet. La parte triste è che solo 5 persone si sono prese la briga di segnalare che Akismet funziona con WordPress 3.0.1. Perché?
I fantastici membri della Community hanno ridisegnato il repository dei plugin di WordPress.org. Il motivo per cui abbiamo scritto questo articolo è incoraggiare gli utenti a votare sulla compatibilità delle versioni dei plugin che utilizzano. Se non avete idea di cosa stiamo parlando, seguite il tutorial qui sotto:
Per prima cosa avrete bisogno di un account WordPress.org, che è bene avere perché potrete inviare segnalazioni di bug sui plugin, fare il controllo di compatibilità, rispondere alle domande, ecc. È possibile registrare un account in modo gratuito collegandosi a questo link.
Quindi visitate il WordPress Plugin Repository e cercate il plugin che state utilizzando. In questo esempio, utilizzeremo il plugin Comment Reindirizza perché lo stiamo utilizzando sul nostro sito e sappiamo che funziona con WordPress 3.0.1. Questo plugin è stato scaricato da oltre 7.000 utenti. Questo plugin è stato scaricato oltre 7.000 volte e almeno la metà degli utenti lo sta ancora utilizzando. Ma non ci sono responsive sul suo funzionamento o meno.
Poiché funziona, tutto ciò che dobbiamo fare è cliccare su Works. Ora mostrerà agli altri utenti che una persona ha verificato che questo plugin funziona con WordPress 3.0.1. Così, se qualcun altro vuole usarlo, ha almeno una persona che gli assicura che funziona.
Ma questo può diventare un chiaro via libera se più persone votano. Sono necessari almeno 4 voti perché WordPress sia sicuro al 100% della sua elaborazione in corso. Qui di seguito visualizziamo l’immagine di All in One SEO Pack Plugin, che ha abbastanza voti per dare il via libera a WordPress.

I do this on a regular basis with a lot of plugins I use or am testing! This is a great thing for user users and also to let the plugin authors know if they are on the “right way” :-).

WP should place links/scripts to the voting database right in each users copy of WP – then you can vote, right on your plugin page, right in your admin. The results on WP can determine which base url sent the vote and only count it once (otherwise displaying a thankyou – until the next version).
Once I install a plugin – I will rarely ever see the voting page for that plugin again, since I don’t have to download it again.
Also – some users may not ‘know’ if the plugin works, unless it totally breaks their design.

Great effort done in promoting WP plugin compatibility.
Unfortunately, I feel there’s lack of feedback because users must create an account or login. Maybe 1 solution here is to allow people to login via Twitter/FB connect to cast their vote.
Then again, it’s in Auttomatic’s court.

That FB/Twitter oauth support could be nice. but I think the bigger issue is that most people use the plugin search in their admin panel and don’t ever get to the rating part of the wp extend site.
Even when I download a plugin from repository the rating aspect is an afterthought because I still have to install it and test and see if it works. Then later (time wise) you’d have to go back, research that plugin, and rate it. That’s clearly something that people 1, don’t think to do and 2, don’t want to.
During beta testing of WP3 I rated a bunch that worked and didn’t but I rarely find myself rating a bunch of plugins with every WP release.
Perhaps it’s something each plugin developer needs to push on their own accord.
