How to Get Old WordPress Admin Interface in WordPress 3.8

Not every one is all lovey-dovey about the new WordPress Admin interface. It sure is modern, responsive, sleek and stylish, but some of our users simply don’t like it all that much. If you’re one of those folks, then you’re in luck. The beauty of open source is that if people want to change something they can come up with a solution of their own. In this article, we will show you how to get old WordPress admin interface back in WordPress 3.8.

If you don’t like the video or need more instructions, then continue reading.

First of all we do not recommend our users to keep using an old version of WordPress just because they don’t like the new admin interface. We highly recommend that you update WordPress to the latest version if you haven’t already done so. After that we would want you to take a look and change admin color schemes and see if there is an admin color scheme that you would like to use.

If you are still certain that you want the old admin UI, then all you need to do is install and activate wp-admin classic plugin. It works out of the box upon activation. Your admin interface will change back to the old wp-admin UI design and layout.

That’s all, now you have the power and features of the latest WordPress with the admin interface that you felt comfortable with. Let us know what is it about the new admin interface that you don’t like? Please leave us a comment below or join us on Twitter.

I don’t see that much difference in the new Admin Interface, but I think it looks better ;)

Agree with Yannick. This responsive admin panel is a nightmare creating skinny little pain in the @rse columns.

I liked and USED the “Other WordPress News” in the Admin area and regularly read the articles or watched the videos that were linked there. Now I have to actually go to the website at planet.wordpress.org to check out the latest posts … I thought WordPress was about CHOICE and democracy in publishing?? There was always the option to “uncheck” it in the Screen Options so it was easily turned off.
And I second Yannick’s comment above about setting the number of columns. Its nice to have a choice of colors and I can take or leave the cosmetic update to the interface–I’d like the functionality and CHOICE back, please! WP-Admin-Classic only restores the cosmetics of WP-Pre-3.8: I’d like the functionality back.

I HATE the new interface. I have a great deal of trouble scrolling when writing a blog post. The little thingy you slide to scroll gets covered up. I HATE IT!

    Hi

I love the new admin interface, only one thing annoys me. I wish to have 2 columns on the dashboard page instead of 3 now. Before you could change this via “screen options” but now it seems to have disapeared.

Does anyone know how to change this or did I just overlook an option somewhere?
