Bottom line: We found SiteGround to be noticeably faster and extremely reliable. Their hosting plans are flexible, and their customer support is one of the best in the industry.

That’s why we’ve chosen to recommend SiteGround as one of the best WordPress hosting companies.

Now let’s dive into our detailed SiteGround review so that you can see how we reached that conclusion and decide for yourself.

About SiteGround

Siteground was founded in 2004, and since then, it has grown into one of the most well-known hosting companies.

SiteGround is a holding of companies registered in the USA, UK, Bulgaria, Cyprus, and Spain, with data centers on three continents. Today, the company has over 500 employees and hosts over 2,000,000 domains.

Pros and Cons of SiteGround

Each hosting company has its pros and cons. Some advantages can overshadow the disadvantages, but some cons can be a total deal-breaker for your needs.

Before making a decision, you may want to review these SiteGround pros and cons.

Pros

Here are some advantages that make SiteGround one of the top-rated hosting companies in the world.

  • Super fast servers: All SiteGround servers are highly optimized for speed. They use the Google Cloud platform for all new customers, which is one of the fastest platforms on the market.
  • Top Notch Customer Support: Their customer support is amazing, to say the least. They offer 24/7 phone support, live chat, and ticket-based support.
  • Free CDN and SSL They offer an instant setup of Cloudflare’s free CDN and free SSL certificate from Let’s Encrypt.
  • Multiple Server Locations They have data centers on three continents. You can choose the location you prefer during signup.

Cons

As we mentioned earlier, there are some downsides to every hosting company. The following are some disadvantages of choosing SiteGround as your host.

  • Limited Storage: Their plans come with fixed storage. However, this storage is quite large, and if you are just starting out, you will most likely never need extra storage.
  • Higher fee for monthly billing: The hosting service gets expensive if you choose monthly billing. But if you sign up for a longer billing period, then you’ll get a bigger discount and a lower rate. They offer a 30-day money-back guarantee anyway, so it’s a good idea to choose a longer billing period when you sign up.

SiteGround Performance

While price often plays a significant role when choosing a web host, you cannot compromise on performance.

This is why we decided to run our own tests to thoroughly review SiteGround’s performance.

SiteGround Speed Test Results

Speed is one of the most important performance metrics that you should look for. A faster website offers a good user experience and boosts your SEO at the same time.

In fact, a single-second delay can cause a 7% decrease in conversions, 11% fewer page views, and a 16% decrease in customer satisfaction.

Strangeloop performance case study

We created a WordPress-powered test site on SiteGround and filled it with dummy content for theme development with images.

After that, we used Pingdom’s website speed test tool to run our tests. These were the results we got:

SiteGround speed test results

As you can see, our test site loaded in less than a second (417 ms to be precise) with a performance score of 95.

This is incredible, but this website had almost no traffic, so the Pingdom test alone is insufficient.

To test how SiteGround servers would respond to increased traffic, we used a stress testing tool called K6 by Grafana Labs.

This tool gradually sends up to 50 users to see how the server would respond to increased traffic from multiple connections.

You can see the results in the chart below:

SiteGround stress testing results

The purple line is the number of active virtual users on the site, and the light blue line is the server response time. SiteGround performed consistently throughout the test without any hiccups.

This test shows that if you are looking for a really fast website, then SiteGround can be a perfect choice for you.

One of the reasons why SiteGround performed exceptionally well in these performance tests is because of the recent innovations they’ve added.

Almost all SiteGround servers are now hosted on the Google Cloud Platform. They’ve also added UltraFast PHP and created a custom WordPress plugin for optimization (SG Optimizer), which really puts them in a premium web hosting category.

Typically, websites hosted on shared hosting accounts slow down during top traffic hours. That’s because your site is sharing resources with other websites on that server.

Most shared hosting companies automatically kill the server process if your site is taking too many resources. This causes downtime on your website.

We tested our SiteGround site for the downtime and got 100% uptime result.

SiteGround uptime results

SiteGround Server Response Time

Your website’s content has a huge impact on page load time. For example, if you have high-resolution images on a page, then it will significantly increase the overall page load time.

This means that speed test results may not accurately reflect how fast your hosting server really is.

Instead of analyzing page load time alone, we decided to test the actual server response time as well.

To do this, we used a tool called Bitcatcha. It ignores page content and only tests the response time of the server.

Bitcatcha also gives you average loading speed from different global locations. The speed for each location is measured three separate times, and then the results are averaged.

Take a look at the results in the screenshot below.

SiteGround response time

As you can see, SiteGround is a great choice if your target audience is mostly located in the United States. The server responded in a fraction of a second in the United States.

It responded within less than a second for all locations.

SiteGround also allows you to change your server location and you can choose a data center closer to your target audience for even better response times in that particular region.

SiteGround Hosting Plans and Features

SiteGround offers shared hosting, WordPress hosting, cloud hosting, and dedicated hosting plans. If you are just starting out, then their shared hosting plans would be a perfect fit for your needs. They are one of the top WooCommerce hosting providers and make it super easy to start an online store without any special technical skills.

4. Does SiteGround offer a website builder?

No, SiteGround does not offer its own site builder. That’s because they want users to have the option to pick the best website builder for their needs.

On the SiteGround platform, you can also create unlimited web pages without any restrictions.

5. Does SiteGround offer cPanel hosting?

No, SiteGround no longer offers cPanel hosting. 6. Is SiteGround better than Bluehost?

SiteGround and Bluehost used to offer the same features, but with recent innovations, SiteGround has significantly improved its hosting technology.

Regarding overall performance, technology infrastructure, and support quality, SiteGround is better than Bluehost. However, with all this innovation, SiteGround pricing is significantly higher.

So, when it comes to pricing, Bluehost is better than SiteGround because not only is it 50% cheaper, but it also offers a free domain name with each account.

GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, QUICK AND EASY!!!!

I searched and searched about blue host. And I was so close to selecting it for my first blog, but then I stumbled on site ground. I decided to go with them when I found out the difference in uptime between the two companies. I thought I had some trouble with registering, but that was not the case. I was just impatient. However, I contacted site ground through live chat and it said 17 other sessions before mine. And I was like ah man this is going to take forever, I got through in less than 2 minutes.

  3. Judit Katai says

After a long online research and reading reviews we found Siteground as a good host to try.
My first surprise was when I had a live chat before I registered and it went so easy and clearly having a real expert on the other side. Then I registered and got a welcome call if I need any help to install WordPress etc. I was shocked as I’m paying for the smallest plan and I still felt like the biggest client of Siteground.
It’s all running for 5 months now and another extreme quick respond to my request, even when I know they are great it’s still amazing. I don’t remember when I experienced such a customer service not to mention that my site is working properly and I have no issues at all.
The cheapest and best service of all!
Thanks for the fantastic team! :-)

  4. Darryl Schmidt says

I don’t mind paying more for great support. Paying less and still getting great support blows my mind.

  5. Don Green says

Best tech support of any company out there, not just web hosting companies.

Forget Godaddy, they were a pain, their shared servers were slow, their email system caused endless head aches and their tech support always said it was not a problem on their side for a couple of years. After switching all the problems went away immediately.

  6. Ganesh Ramamurthy says

My pleasure to have account with SiteGround. Always I trust and best in class service! Keep rockingguys

  7. Andy says

I have had to call on siteground report via their online chat support numerous times for various technical questions and i have found them always to be extremely knowledgeable about all aspects. I often ask them for support in things that aren’t really part of their services but they always help out with expert assistance.

Siteground online chat support is vital to my web business as i know that within minutes I will be speaking to a real person who knows his/her stuff and will be able to help.

I have had nightmare experiences with firms like BT and Vodafone who set up big centres in India and Asia and you end up pulling your hair out. Siteground uses European centres with really technically able and educated advisers.

    Well done Siteground!!

  8. Larry says

I’m in the process of moving a interconnected, multi-domain web hub of four sites, and two other domains to SiteGround. Given my track record of having problems when most others have clear sailing, I expected some difficulties. Sadly, I wasn’t surprised by a glitch-free experience.
    .
So far I have worked with four customer support reps. Three of whom were helpful. Two had the answers I needed and the patience to bear with me while I fumbled around trying to do what they needed to do.
    .
The fourth was by FAR the absolute worst customer service rep I have ever encountered. And I’ve encountered some bad ones.
    .
Rather than listening to the problem AND my proposed solution to see if he could help me implement it, he spouted company policy, and otherwise tried to avoid the issue.
    .
I literally had to threaten to cancel my new account if he did not connect me to one of the previous reps who had been helped me set things up when I ordered. Worse yet, I had to make that threat TWICE before he finally transferred me.
    .
Once the previous rep was back online with me, he had both the knowledge and patience needed to sort things out in just a few minutes.
    .
So, in my experience, the bottom line is that, as with everything else, the results you get pretty much depend upon who you are talking with.
    .
And, frankly, three out of four ain’t bad.

  9. Nathan says

CAUTION! I tried to move my website to Site Ground due to all the great reviews but It was a HUGE MISTAKE!

They said my site was up and running but when I transferred the Name servers to the new host nothing worked correctly. Over the next 36 hours I was constantly contacting support trying to get the problem fixed. Most the time they blamed it on not having enough RAM and CPU’s even though I was told 2X CPU’s and 3GB RAM would be enough to handle my websites traffic.

I instantly upgraded to 3X CPUS and 6gb RAM since its very important to me that my site was up and running but after that the site did not run correctly. After that there was a number of other problems and fixes but nothing solved the problem. The site was supper slow and websites like isitdownorjust and GTmetrix showed the website was down.

They never actually got my site to work correctly and I knew they had given up when they said I still didn’t have enough CPU’s, I knew that was BS. I could see there were only 60 visitors on my website which is 50% of normal traffic levels. This was when I switched back to my host that is 1/4th the price and can handle more than 60 visitors at one time.

To top it all off they refused to issue me a refund! However, this just proved that I made the right decision by switching back to my old host.

  10. Allison says

I chose site ground because they have crush and other drupal-friendly systems pre-installed. Some of my clients want their sites hosted outside of the US, which site ground also offers. So far I’ve been happy with the service and price. Tech support is less knowledgable than other companies I’ve worked with, but with some persistence I’ve always been able to resolve problems.

  11. Stefan says

Siteground Support is really lovley! Very nice people who help you all the time with every issue, its wonderful!

  12. Ian White says

I’m a “single-focus-operator.” That means I focus on what’s important to me. Understanding what all the acronyms in I.T. is not important as far as I’m concerened. There are others who are capable. So, I remain a cyber-moron. That means I need good-natured help whenever a problem arises with hosting and other issues. I rarely get it.
But my experience with Siteground support has been top-notch. Unlike anything else I’ve had from any other company.
So, whoever wrote the criticism that most of the reviews were about support; the picture may be right for them, but for me, that willingness to offer patient, well-explained and respectful help, is not merely an adjunct, it’s vital to someone like me.
Siteground ticks all the boxes on that one.

  13. olivier LESSEUR says

I just start moving to siteground, helping is very great, always according to questions

Thank you Siteground (and sorry for english mistakes, i am french)

  14. Dennis Santos says

I just moved to SiteGround, it’s true, their staff is amazing. But I’m a little worried that every review is focused on their customer support.

I didn’t had to go too much to my last providers customer support, because I didn’t needed to. I decided to change because of the speed of my sites.

Should I be worried that everyone has to go to support for some kind of issue in their server :S with SiteGround?

    • Anna says

Good point. Report back and let us know your experience. Maybe people just really really like the fact that they can get real help from a real person when they need it.

    • JJ says

I signed up with them recently. So far, so good but I haven’t really used the server yet. I did need to contact support for a couple minor issues in the setup, but they fixed it right away. I also saw why this forum is filled with people praising them for support. Basically after each live chat on their site (which they really do answer pretty quick), it gives you the standard options to rate and review the person you chatted with. The review portion redirects here. On one hand, kudos to them for allowing people to review on an open 3rd party forum. On the other hand, I’d like to hear more detailed experience from people on the host(s) I’m looking at. Until I chatted with them myself (pre-sale) and saw that they were redirecting post-chats here, I wondered if the gushing reviews here were not legit. There are quite a few hosts out there that are not above putting out (or paying people to put out) good things about them.

  15. Marc says

Just paid and waiting to be contacted about the transfers….never had customer service like that before…..1 word “Perfect”

Very much looking forward to having a team of WP experts there to help me!

My only slightly negative point, if you can even call it that is I was told the price without VAT…in the EU VAT is not standard, I dont mind paying it but would rather have known about it before….

Looking forward to a happy and profitable relationship

    Marc –

  16. Scott says

can i give six stars? awesome awesome support and far more competent tech support folks than my last provider. we just transferred from Fatcow and couldn’t be happier!

  17. Linda Sherman says

I am a very happy SiteGround user. I wrote this article about them:

Since I wrote that article in April 2015, I have moved most of my own sites to SiteGround as well as putting several new clients on SiteGround and my opinion has not changed.

Their space for email on their shared server is limited to 2GB which is way too small. But you shouldn’t be depending on a shared server for email anyway. I use it for limited purposes.

  18. KHALED MSMLY says

I’m so happy with SiteGround, I want to tell everyone! It’s so easy to get someone on chat or phone to help. And they are quick and friendly!
I have been with several hosting companies within the last 10 years, but never had such a wonderful – friendly – competent – fast – excellent support and service as here. Thank you all so much.

  19. Kay says

I have contacted the SiteGround support a couple of times and they have responded quickly, effectively, and supportively. So glad I chose to use them as my site’s server! I have used others that weren’t nearly as helpful or supportive. Great staff!

  20. Abdul Jalil says

Thanks. That’s why I choose siteground support for the second time. The reason is that you helped me with wordpress. Other host say that this is not their business.

  21. ISABELLE says

Since joining SiteGround, I only have praise for their service. My WordPress site went from turtle mode to cheetah mode in no time. Whenever I have a question, silly or not, I always get a quick answer. The personnel is engaging, respectful and really helpful. Thanks.

  22. Brian Austin says

Without doubt, a 5-star service provider! Much appreciated.

I had a fairly complex web hosting / SSL / TLS problem, involving several support tickets at Seiteground.com.

My contact at SiteGround was remarkably helpful, friendly, in resolving the problem, explaining the options, traps to avoid, etc.,, even to the extent of providing suggestions that could initially lower their sales, on this occasion – though I somehow think their sales will increase as a result of such forthright practice. And deservedly so.

Highly recommended as a competent, helpful web hosting provider.

  23. abhinaykatti says

    Really awesome support.
Technically very strong , Quick resolutions, You name it They have it .
Definitely rely on Siteground for all web products.

  24. Alex S says

Awesome, there support is out of this world, they will help you track down the issue and get it solved. Servers are really fast to.

  25. Colton says

Amazing service straight from day 1, literally, I received a phone call while at work 12 hours after signing up asking if they could walk me through the basics, which is great because this is my first try at running a site and learning simple PHP. and javascript.

  26. Joe Ellis says

I had to cancel via SiteGround only because my sites are not ready. But I will be back soon for sure.

    Professional and ethical company.

  27. Amanda Kremser says

After many years of being frustrated with previous hosts and shopping around I’ve been super impressed with Siteground. Seriously excellent support and great features!

  28. Shannon says

I’m a web developer and have worked with well over 50 different hosts – SiteGround has provided some of the best, most affordable support and services out there. I just moved all my personal sites (40+) to them and everything is quick and flawless.

  29. Adam says

Absolutely horrendous customer service. I will never use Siteground again and I will inform everyone I talk to about websites not to use Siteground. The support techs were either incompetent or lying. I was with them for several years.

They kept shutting down my site claiming traffic problems that could not be identified in the logs. They told me again and again I just needed to upgrade to one higher level and everything would work fine. I upgraded once and within a month suddenly my traffic problems (which could not be identified in the logs and there were no IP’s to block) magically doubled to the level of my new package. Then they hounded me to upgrade again.

I spent tens of hours trying to identify a mystical problem for which they could provide no help, direction, or logs to identify and ultimately proved to not be a real problem as verified by switching to the other host (ace-host.net).

I took the exact same site, same files, same database, a mirror copy to another host and had zero problems. I’ve been operating there for months now and we haven’t touched our siteground account. As far as I can tell, Siteground is a scam trying to trick customers to upgrade again and again to get more money. It’s a shame, because I was very excited about this host when it first launched.

BTW, my page speeds improved dramatically after leaving the slow Siteground.

      • Joe says

Good question. I would also be curious who they went to. I found this review page while researching this host and others. Sounds like most people are happy with Siteground.

    • Jan says

Agreed. I just cancelled my new website with SG because they completely screwed up the transfer from WP. I lost 5 days of business to my website because their propagation failed, and I had to open 7 support tickets and live chat 6 times in 3 hours.

Technical support is horrible. You will get 12 different answers to the same question and none of them are the right answer.

No one at SG was helpful and they failed in every way with my account and transfer of my website. Ig they could not process a top of the line design, then they cannot handle every day service.

The last person (who was a woman) processed the refund within 2 minutes. Hopefully they do not screw that up too.

P.S. This was the second time I tried them. They failed the first website as well.

  30. Carrie Kinnison says

The customer support has been amazing. Fast connect to live chat tech. The site migration was painless. Awesome!

Wonderful customer support! I had the pleasure of being assisted by Nayden today and he was outstanding. Thank you. No better hosting.

I started as a beginner using 1and1 after seeing their reviews on TV – big mistake. When I realised I’d be building more sites, I decided to look into some alternative hosting, and site ground seemed to come off well for WordPress reviews. Having used them now for a couple of months, and a few website transfers from 1and1, I would recommend them in a heartbeat to anybody. 1and1 make it such a long and tedious process to export databases that are otherwise hidden and private (ridiculous) but site ground support staff have been helpful and professional in any issues I’ve had – some of which have turned out not to relate to hosting (incompatible plugins, among other things) and they have still gone above and beyond to do everything they can to help me.

Unquestionably brilliant, five stars every time.

In the short time I have been with SiteGround, I have had a few “beginner” type questions.
In every instance, their fabulous team have responded within minutes of my queries.
Always courteous, interested, keen and capable – problems are always solved. AND – they thank ME for my questions!
No need to consider anyone else for hosting – just use SiteGround!

I am new to all things hosting and Joomla, but what a great service and fantastic online chat. Paid for Go Geek premium service….forwards and beyond.

Thank you Siteground. Highly recommended indeed.

I just got SiteGround and I like it so much. The customer service people are easily accessible by chat or by phone and have been so helpful! I have told several people about it. I found out about SiteGround from its ratings at the Better Business Bureau.

I have been with several hosting companies within the last 10 years, but never had such a wonderful – friendly – competent – fast – excellent support and service as here. Thank you all so much.

Siteground is my first hosting company I have been with and I think it will be the only one I ever need! Their customer service is top notch and I don’t think I have ever had such good support from any company I have had to deal with in the past. I have had quite a few Live Chats recently and have been fortunate enough to have been paired with the same adviser each time. Every Live Chat has solved any problem or query I have had and I feel I know I can expect a solution each time.

I was so unhappy with my previous hosting provider. It sometimes took hours to get someone to help and their knowledge base blog was pitiful.

I’m so happy with SiteGround, I want to tell everyone! It’s so easy to get someone on chat or phone to help. And they are quick and friendly!

The resources available on their site is phenomenal! As a newbie, I have a ton of questions and I can easily find all my answers here on SiteGround. They have documents and videos to help with hosting and website design questions. And the services they offer are flexible.

Thank you SiteGround for being such a robust service.

SiteGround is my first hosting service but I don’t see any reason to go anywhere else. As a beginner it’s important to have responsive support. I’ve used both email and chat support and have been more than satisfied.

So happy I moved from a different hosting company last week. Just had a small issue and within seconds (literally) the problem was solved. Thank you SiteGround!!
